That sure looks nice. I have often thought about adding some type of bug (stone) deflector but don't like the acrylic look. You mention the use of Maguire's. Do you think this product is better than the Car Guys plastic restorer?

Oh, man Maguire's Ultra Black Plastic restorer is the "bomb" for me ... been using it for awhile with good results.

I've neglected from doing anything on the fading black plastic all over the truck because of conflicting reviews on the various products. Thanks to this forum I'll try the Maguires.

We were far enough west from any bad weather from the hurricane. I do wish we could have had some rain though.

...it might take a couple of coats, don't give up on the first coat.

IMHO PPF is the best way to go. Look for the 11m. I agree that you should also use it on the bumper, grille, and front of the hood. I also do the backs of the mirrors. While it will not stop every rock chip it will certainly stop most of them. It will also make removing the bugs much easier. It will probably cost about $500-$750. For bug removal, I would suggest Poorboy's Bug Squash. It does an excellent job. If you do not remove the bugs from your painted surfaces timely they can stain and eat into your clear coat.

Had a few back CCW bands, some wind and rain, but nothing major. More towards NE TX now and Arkansas etc.,. We dodged a bullet. BUT than I am not on the coast, in center of state.

Yeah, I just both the Meguairs black the other day, figured be better than the Turtle 2000.

I didn't read your post, so I appologize if it seemed I was busting on you...I was not. I was thinking in my head about the edge of the hood only...And living in the love bug state, Pam is your best friend in April and November. :)
Pam and other sprays like wd-40 etc.never worked for me against love bugs(well, after about a day or say a 5-10 mile run in the bugs they dont).heck, ive buffed on new wax 2-3 times a week, ive actually wiped on wesson oil to try and combat these little suckers..nothing works say more than a day..after the 1st couple hits and drying...pain in the butt to get off.(can you tell I hate these dam things?...lol)...I've seen truckers come past my road....you can't see the driver...no idea how they can see out.
I've been up in ur area for days on end during the season..not even close to the amount as down here, south of you bout 110 miles.

I grew up in Pasco county when it was mostly rural...And we used to get choked with those things. I must say, you are correct, here in Pinellas we don't really get much of them. Even when i drive up to Hernando, I dont seem to see as many of them as I used to. The way I normally remove them is to soak a few heavy towels and slap them on the surface and let them sit for 30 mins...That seems to loosen them up enough to remove. Still a PIA, but not nearly as bad as I remember them as a kid.

Oooh...never tried just soaking some towels for awhile...windshield I really don't worry bout.i use a razor blade.
I usually do a pre-rinse around the truck 2-3 times, guess that would be my soaking.a soft cloth in a bucket with a ton of soap.rinse and repeat like 400 times...bumper,I use a hard a** tire brush.pretty quick.
God awful smell too when there's a ton on there.
Some years there's hardly any.ive seen very few so far this year.
I'm in Charlotte more inland, definite rural.
Nice to meet ya neighbor.
I bet the northern folks think we're nuts yacking about lovebugs.
I hate them little b*****ds I tell ya!

Silly yankees....They talk about snow, and something about rust from salt on the roads. I had salt on the boat, but never on the road...

They did. It does not hold up long term now days. I can not tell you how many cars I have removed the 3m stuff after just a few years because of failure.
Agreed!
3M used to really make great PPF products, but now they're stuff just doesn't hold up.
X-Pel is the way to go.
I also got X-Pel ceramic window tint, too.
20% all around and 70% on the front windshield.
Huge improvement in heat rejection inside the cab.

When 3M came out it was great. All of your new cars that have PPF that is what is on it. Even Porsches. But I did a 2020 911 it had 3k miles on it garage kept and its 3, ppf behind the door on the quarter panel was already failing. If you are going to do it spend the money and do it right with X-Pel. I have their ceramic tint on the wifes Jeep and My Flex. My Camaro is next. I have been debating doing a full front with the leading edge on my Flex since we road trip it a lot.

Xpel is top of the line. Ive got it on both my flex and wifes jeep. Full fronts with mirrors and the leading edge. The self healing effect is another great benefit. Lets not forget the warranty.
Would this work to protect from the occasional parking lot door chip?

This is the first vehicle I've had front windshield tint on, and I'll never go back...lol.
It's such a nice thing to have, especially on long road trips.
There's no issues with my front dashcam not capturing footage, night or day either.
I also now don't need the front camera sun filter on anymore as the ceramic tint at 70% acts as the filter now.
My installer just cut a small square out of the tint for my rear camera and mounted it over the cutout so I don't see the cutout area in my rearview mirror.

If they are good you wont even see where they cut it out. My buddy Kody makes my clients that say it can't be done shocked when they can't find his cut line. If you are in the DFW area I highly recommend him.
