I can purchase a 2011 ford 6.7 powerstroke with 253,*** miles for 13 grand. Egr delete and professionally tuned on dyno. Uncle is about to get rid of it for a 16. Hmm that is a lot of miles but it's been a one owner work truck.

It's really cheap. I've heard there's been a lot of problems with those first year 6.7L Ford diesels. But I would think that after that many miles it would have worked itself out by now. My concern would be for the transmission. That's a lot of miles for a tranny. Has it been rebuilt yet?

You could always buy it and sell it a year later if you don't like it.

Nothing wrong with getting a truck for cheap even if it is a different make.

I mean, we won't talk to him anymore, but that's his choice. (J/K)

Don't do business with relatives.

You know the uncle - did he take care of it? Was he the type of person to take care of it?

Oh no my baby 6.4 will still be my main truck lol. I'm ram all the way. I just wouldn't mind have a cheap diesel that gets 22 miles to the gallon. But a major repair would negate all of that for sure lol. No I don't think the tranny has been touched. I think two heads have been rebuilt. He owns a logging business so the trucks seen some miles. Mostly highway miles though. Maintaince wise o know he's kept up with oil changes but probably not some other diesel maintenance like coolant flushes. It's a king ranch too. I think I will say 12,000 and leave it at that.

3 close friends have 6.7 PSDs and one with a 2011; I'll leave the 2011 stories for another time but let's just be clear, the only way any of those 3 rigs will sniff 20mpg is down a hill with a 40mph tail wind and a large sail hoisted on a 30' mast from the bed...... They have been getting 15-18mpg consistently....all are crew cab 4wd and they have about 500K miles among them.

It all depends on maint. and what else needs to be done as far as is it worth $13K.

253K, IMO, is a lot of miles for all parts on a truck.

You said he is a logger. Are a lot of these miles on dirt/gravel/logging roads? A lot of these miles will naturally be harder on the truck. Besides wear and tear on suspension and steerimg was the air filter checked/replaced on a regular basis?

Was it idled a lot? As in if he is a supervisor was he monitoring daily activities and making calls from the comfort of a warm vehicle on cold days and cool vehicle when it was hot? It may have a lot more hours than the miles would suggest.

In the end, the decision is yours. If you just want it, get it.

Excellent points here on the actual "truck"When people talk about mileage and especially with diesel drive trains as we know many of them run trouble free to very high mileage.........they forget an F250 is an F250 is an F250....same with any 2500 etc. Every other part on that rig has a boat load of use as well.

The drive train on my PSD was in fantastic condition and only had 125k miles on it when I sold it off.....but the truck was 15 years old and showed almost every ounce of that age and use. Granted this PSD is a 2011....but the points on idle and hours and rough use are valid.

My buddies log. I wouldn't take their rigs if they gave them to me. Much different than 250K highway miles cruising or towing lightly.

As Drittal said.....if you want it buy it, it is a project rig....enjoy it, but know that going in.
