I have a 2014 Laramie with the Hemi. I love it. I like the sound and the performance. The truck is in really nice shape. It has 98,500 miles on it.
Yesterday I saw a nice looking Laramie Longhorn on dealers lot and stopped to look at it. Absolutely loaded.
Long story short. It wound up being a eco diesel 3.0. It has 15,000 miles and is in cherry condition.

I haven't taken it for a test drive yet. I figured I'd get some feedback here before going through the torture of going to the dealer.

Question. The is the diesel a dog in performance? I mean 240HP compared to 395HP. Torque is pretty even.

I don't do much heavy towing.

They area asking $34,500. In can probably get it for $32 - 32,500.

Any opinions or experiences are welcome.

Thanks

Some folk have them and love them , others have a bunch of issues. This truck would also have fallen into the fca diesel scandel iirc. I would keep what you have or look at a new one with the updated ecodiesel.

If you like the Hemi fun pedal then keep what you got. Unless you plan on doing a full delete and tuning the EcoD you probably won't be happy with the "performance" stock. As I told my buddy when I first bought my EcoD when he said let's race.. "Were both limited to 26 gallons of fuel and the finish line is 650 miles away, the truck has to cross the line under power by itself or the owner pushing it"
Yes the torque number just slightly favor of the EcoD(420 ft/lbs @ 2K rpms) but at half the RPMs of the Hemi (410 ft/lbs @ 4K rpms), so how the truck drives differs considerably. Where the Hemi starts making its torque up/over 4K rpms(the fun pedal zone) you'll have ran out of rpms with the EcoD(4400 redline).

Thanks guys. I guess it wasn't meant to be. I took a ride to the dealer to show my wife the truck. It was sold.
From the replies it doesn't sound as though I would have been happy with it. Love my Hemi.

Was this a Chrysler dealership? I ask because rumor has it that FCA has put a hold on selling all but 2020 EcoD's until the VB1 recall has been completed.

Glad you passed. My cousin has an Ecodiesel, not sure of the year but guessing a 2017. I just heard from my other cousin, his brother, that he blew the motor. Word is the truck had 100,800 miles with much of being highway miles. I hope FCA is stepping up and honoring the 5/100,000 mile warranty but who knows.

Yes it was a Chrysler dealer. It was only put out on the lot Jan.15. Either they pulled it off the lot or sold it damn quick. i'm glad I didn't get it. I have this habit of impulse buying and regretting later.

I'd keep your truck instead of getting that ecodiesel. If you were really dead set on one I think you'd be much better off with the newer 5th gen ecodiesel. I hear it is a world of a difference.

I would consider it if I drove more but I've only been averaging 10,000miles/year.
