New to the forum. Monday I'm going to look at a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500. It's a 2wd SLT with the 4.7 and an auto transmission. Any help would be appreciated. What should I look for? Are the 4.7's good motors? What about transmission? It's only got 70,000 miles on it.

4.7s aren't bad motors but you won't get any more mileage with it just lower power and towing capacity. Especially compared to an 06-up 5.7 that has the 4 cylinder shutoff. If you get it for the right price then go for it but if not you might want to look for a 5.7. Transmissions seem to be ok as long as you keep after fluid and filter changes and don't abuse it.

Welcome to the forum.

Seriously, the 5.7L HEMI is a much better engine than the 4.7L. If you can find a 5.7L engined truck in as good a condition with 70K on the odo for around the same price, get that instead.

Oh I know about the 5.7
My brother has an 04 with the 5.7
I can't really be too picky with what I'm getting though. I can only spend 10-14k. My price on the dodge would be 14k. Someone told me something about sludge build up in the 4.7's. What about that? And overheating
