I’m not a huge fan of the black headliner. Can you swap it out for a different, lighter color? Thanks!

It is not hard to remove the headliner, so if you can find the color you want, I would say yes.

Thanks! Might be a dumb question, but do you buy a new precut one from Mopar or would an auto upholstery shop do a custom new one?

Yes you can.

Granted this was a 4th gen.

The black headliner only comes on the higher trim trucks, so I had to swap my headliner harness over to the new headliner.

An upholstery shop should be able to re-do your original headliner in a color/fabric of your choice. Unsure what that cost would be, but a new headliner is ~$900-$1200.

Awesome! I forgot about all the wiring, etc. Was it a pain? I don’t even see a 2020 tan headliner out there...

The wiring wasn't too bad. The harness came free relatively easy using a heat gun. And I used a glue gun to re-attach it.

I would do a Mopar one if it was mine. The OEM stuff is just made to fit right.

I’ve heard a couple times now about removing the windshield and all that to change the headliner color. Now I called a local upholstery shop near me who’s really good and for a few hundred bucks he said he could remove the headliner, add new fabric over the black, glue it on so it looks like it came from the factory and put it back on. He’s never heard of having to remove the windshield, etc. But like you said, I talked to the parts guy at my local dealership and he said the same thing you did. So is there a way to change the fabric color withoutdoing all this windshield stuff?

I'm pretty sure someone on here removed their crew cab's headliner. I believe they had to remove the seats. Otherwise it's just too big to get out without bending and damaging it.
I did mine but it's a reg cab so easy to get out. I had the opposite problem, I have a '14 tradesman with the black/gray interior but everything from the pillars up was tan, ugh. So I removed headliner, pillars, visors etc and painted black with duplicolor fabric/ vinyl paint. Looks great, now everything matches.
So your upholstery guy is probably legit, i say go for it.

On my 4th gen, I took my headliner out twice through the driverside rear door.

I had both front seats, jump seat, and rear seats removed.

You also have to remove the upper a, b, and c piller trim panels (which involves the seatbelts for the b/c pillers), disconnect 4 harness connectors (rear driver/passenger side, 3rd brake light, green connector behind headlight switch), rear coat hooks, front sunvisors and sunvisor hooks, and may need to pull the rubber door trim.

It's a real tight fit, but the headliner is rather robust and bounced back without creases even with squeezing it out.

Getting it back up was way more tedious, granted I was doing it alone.
