I have a Magnaflow 16869 cat-back on my 2012 Ram 5.7, and I'm looking at a Borla 140758BC for a 2021 Ram . . . The Magnaflow was about as loud as I (OK, my wife) could tolerate . . . Any idea how loud the touring series from Borla would compare to the Magnaflow ? From what I've read, there is a resonator from Borla that can be added afterwards, if it winds up being too loud for the female approval unit in the house . . . Lol . . . I'm sure Nick will chime in on this, but would appreciate input from anybody with the Borla Touring cat-back. Thanks

I have x pipe, dual borla XR1s and resonators. I love mine. My neighbors also do every time I crank up in the morning.

I have a Magnaflow 16869 cat-back

Do you know what size muffler that is? I had an 18" Magnaflow on my '15 and it was slightly quieter than the Borla Type S I have on my '20.

Granted the Magnaflow was a muffler-only replacement, with 5" tips from Moe's, and the Borla is a cat back. But I would pretty safe to say that the Borla Touring would be quieter than the 18" Magnaflow.

From loudest to quietest within brand:
Magnaflow - 14", 18", 24"
Borla - ATAK, Touring, Type S

Went out this mornin and checked ... It’s a 22” oval muffler ... The Magnaflow website lists it as a “Turbo” muffler ... Not sure what that means ... Lol .... Marketing I guess ...

I think you would be happy with the Touring set up. It is pretty tame for the most part. Can get loud when you want it to be but not overly LOUD. I also prefer the Borla sound on the Hemi over most other brands.

Quote coming your way

I feel ya @BOWERSFJ

I had the #16869, and considered the Touring, came to conclusion it was basically the same.

Honestly, to me, the best sound was my 2015, stock muffler with Moes 5" tips...decent rumble, no drone, not loud.

Probably gonna go Borla ... Nick had a great price, and if it’s a lol too loud, Borla has a resonator that can be added later ...

Borla S-typs. Loud but not too loud. Sounds like a beast when you lean into it!

Agreed! I kinda wanted the ATAK (and my daughter-in-law egged me on into going for it) but I figured, hey - I'm 55 years old. I don't want to look like the stereotypical grandfather in a Shelby Cobra...

Realistically - I kinda wish there was a way to turn it off when you wanted. I leave the house when my wife is still in bed. And there is no way she has ever stayed sleeping after I left. Our bedroom is on the second floor at the opposite end of the (attached) garage, but she wakes up every time...

I have the Atak on my Camaro SS. I don't feel it drones to much. But it does seem to crackle when I let off the gas. I like the S-type much better, wish I put it an the SS.

I just added a Borla S Type Cat back on my '19 Ram 1500 BigHorn. I bought it off a guy for $685 who used it for 800 or so miles. It came with the resonator... I installed it without the resonator at 1st and it was super loud but tolerable. I have sensitive ears from MiddleEast military deployments... and decided to add the resonator... Oh my that sound under acceleration say about 2000rpm up to 5000rpm... Oh My, even with the resonator on.... when driving at highway speeds, 80-90 there is ZERO drone! In South Dakota the interstate speed limit is 80mph.. It came with the black chrome 5" tips too.

Your wife will like the sound and her ears will too when driving down the highway! The Borla S Type it the mid level exhaust. Its between the Touring and the ATAK..
