So I keep getting and clearing a catalyst code on my 2009 5.7 and am wondering if it is O2 sensors or the actual cats themselves.

What are my options in California as far as replacement Cats?

If it's like MA you have to have the factory cats on the truck. They do a visual inspection to see if they're aftermarket. It's the one reason I went with shorty headers and not longtubes.

^^^Yep if the smog tech knows what is stock versus aftermarket,,he will ask for the CARB sticker/number on any exhaust or engine mod before he can smog check in Ca. 2017 Ca two step rule.

You guys can't even run 49 state legal cats like the kooks green cats that have an EPA number ? I thought it was only kommiefornia that you couldn't run anything but OE emissions equipment.

As of right now we can but in the future no. I was told in a couple years they will have cameras that they have to take pics of the exhaust system with. If its not OEM cats or a CARB certified cat the system fails you. Such BS. They're trying to catch all the deleted diesels with this.

That's retarded. The whole point of paying extra for green cats is that EPA number engraved in the damn thing. Hopefully Texas never adopts any of the CARB garbage, but with all the Cali transplants I'm not hopeful that we'll keep that garbage away in the long run.

Just go to a local shop they will toss up a carb approved, only issue is they are about 100 bucks more. Or, take your chances and toss anything up there, as long as it looks factory they might not even look. I took my wifes 2009 car in and ate lunch across the street, I watched as they did the "smog check" The opened the hood and started the car, closed the hood and parked it, that is it. If it is after a 1996 model year, they don't actually give you a smog check. Hit or miss if they actually look at exhaust, better to go a shop then a smog center. Daves in Petaluma, about what 25 miles from you, they wont even look at axhaust as long as you are near stock, no loud dully's are anything like that.

Are Magnaflow's cheaper universal cats not certified????
I put a stainless Magnaflow on a car couple years ago, it was just over $100 CDN. Not sure about the certs, but when I smog tested the car the head mechanic looked at the numbers and said" that was that cat right there". It passed with flying colors... had a large cam too, so cat was hard at work. :)

49 state label means in CA if you put that on your truck that would be a felony worse then a **** who murdered his children.

We currently offer a CARB-legal replacement cat complete with EO number for the '09 5.7 (OP's application) that can be found here on our website: https://www.magnaflow.com/products/545355-catalytic-converter-california-universal?aces=5913348

We have other federal catalytic converter models available, but these will not pass a CA emissions test. If you have any questions, please feel free to shoot us a PM or call at 1-800-990-0905!
