4.56's or 5.88's in a relatively stock half ton (assuming) would be badass! Man that thing would go like hell, for a little while.
Hey JoeCo, you can only go as low as 3.92s in a 1500 and even then, the front rear has to get swapped out unless it was built with 3.92s.

If you want to go to 4.56s, 4.88s or even 5.13s, you need a 2500 or 3500 truck. And yes, that is BIG FUN! Like adding 5 inches to your biceps and punching somebody you really hate fun!

Haha that does sound really fun! Someday I'll be exploring things like that (crazy gears), more likely in my car though.

Member SoCal did a swap in his 1500 truck to I think 4:56's and had to change the front differential housing also. You might do a search and see what he went through. I think he talks about the parts needed and the cost.

Definitely helps it get up and go! And doesn’t downshift nearly as much on highway at every slight hill !

So in your opinion was it worth it going from 3.21 to 3.92??

Absolutely for me and what I wanted .... more get up and go and much better towing capability. But everyone has their Own wants and needs and limits to how much they’re willing to pay

Thank you. That’s what I was hoping to hear.

Most of the people that change their gears to 4.56's or 4.88's do so because they have either gone to 35" or 37" tires and the gears compensate for the "loss" of power and acceleration caused by the larger tires. After 2012 changing the gears in a 4x4 was almost a nightmare although some people have successfully done it. As has been stated the front end was the problem. It sure ain't cheap but I have not found anyone that has complained about the results once they have done it.
