A friend told me that some are changing valve covers and putting later model coil packs on. That does away with the wires. Any one done that?

I have done this modification to too many Rams that I have forgotten how many. It is worth it for me just to clean up the too of the motor and the engine compartment.

At my local salvage yards here in Texas I can get a pair of Valve Covers for $40.00 and all 8 coils for $45.00.

Now, for the change in coil connectors, there are few companies who are selling the conversion connectors that require no wiring. They are
plug-and-play.

Since I am an electrical guru, I pick up the connectors new from my parts department for my customers and if I'm doing one for a non-dealership customer I always have a bunch of used connectors from warranty wiring harness jobs.

Take your time if you decide to splice in your own connectors. Solder every connection and heat shrink the wires on each one. You will not be disappointed.

Easy peasy

You can easily source the parts at a junkyard or on ebay...paid more for the adapters than the VC's and coils combined lol.

What are the benefits of upgrading to switching to the later generation VCs and coil packs? Other than appearance (looks a lot better IMHO).

No chance of the waste spark wire breaking down. .. more reliable.. less maintenance.

Back in the day it was called the 6.1 coil mod. 06+ I believe is what you want.

That's exactly what it was called lol. Any hemi coil 06+ will work, you want valve covers 06-08 if you can; after that (09+) they are for eagle and apache engines and have the raised portions over the valves for clearance. They will still work, it'll just look different and you'll have the humps for no reason lol. Still uses the same coil. For comparison:

You can also go aftermarket if that floats your boat, but aftermarket VC's for modern hemi's are $$$$$$; saving grace is that most of them seem to be designed for the later taller valve engines so that they can cover all bases.

The 6.1 HEMI coil mod is exactly what it was called in the beginning. But, any 2006-2008 HEMI will do the trick. Hit the Pick N' Pull one weekend and grab a set of valve covers, coils and the wiring harness pigtails off of a donor engine and you will be in business. A diagram of the coil connectors is readily available on the web so you can solder and heat shrink the wiring with ease. Clean up the valve covers or even paint them any color you want and bolt them on. Happy hunting!

The aftermarket covers are heavier than expected and are welded, not just stamped.
They are a sturdy cover to say the least.

Greg did you get a set of those? How are the fit and finish? I was interested but I've read mixed reviews about the Snipers. They're the cheapest ones available (especially compared to the Moroso's).

I bought them for my new motor and haven't actually installed them. But I did check them for flatness and fit on a spare engine and they are good. I got them so I could weld fittings on them for a evacuation hoses.

Can you use this kit plus plug and play for wiring? Also can this all be used with the stock PCM or trucks computer? I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4.

Yes, though it wold be significantly cheaper to find used valve covers and coil packs. Then just get the MMX adapters. Did this years ago.
