Over many months, there has been an intermittent, rapid click/click/click noise when my truck is in motion. Can hear when window is open and sound is bouncing back from side of road obstacles. I cannot hear when applying gas or brake. Any ideas? Here is a video...

Can’t tell from the video.

Check for rock stuck in tread of tire, or modest rub between wheel and tire.

Guessing the faster you go, the less you hear?

Will check for rocks, but intermittent. Can go from "loud" to silent and back again as it does in the video. Does not "feel" like it is coming from tires. My wife shot the video, lol. Same from both sides. And not so much related to RPM of tire I don't think. Thx so much for quick reply.

Check rear (main) driveshaft u-joints. Look for rust where the joint goes into the bearing cup.

Hi Grizly67,
If you decide to have your dealer check this out, you can also send us a private message where we can answer any questions or concerns you may have while your truck is being serviced.

MDS valves are your problem, a way to fix it is get a set of 35x12.5 tires and your MDS wont come on or get a programmer and delete it so it wont come on . The only problem is your gas milage on highway wont drop down to 4 cyclinders. had this happen on my 07 and my 2015

Just had it in overnight to Destination Dodge here in North Vancouver. They replace exhaust manifold bolts. Driving home and noise still there. :-(

Booked in tomorrow for another try. As you guys can see... lots of guesses. @Krein, how confident are you in the MDS theory versus the other ones (brake cable, CV joints, drive shaft, etc.). To me it does sound la bit like the rattling of valves I used to have on an old 68 Volvo with a pushrod engine, lol

I can almost guarantee it. If the problem is when you let off the gas you hear the ticking/ tapping noise but the second you hit the gas it goes away(speeds from 15-55), also another way to check is hit your tow/haul and see it it goes away. The tow/haul disables the MDS and won’t go down to 4cyclinders. The MDS valves are known for doing this.

Thx, really appreciate the thoughts. If it is MDS valves (and now I think it is), is this just an annoyance versus something that is more seriously wrong?

Its just an annoyance, theres no damage to your engine just those damn valve sticking trying to open. But like i said you can get a tune to deactivate the MDS ( which is a must for more power and better performace) or even some dealeships can flash your computer and delete it.
