Cold air intake

Was just laying awake last night thinking too much as usual...
I have the mopar Cai installed on my 1500. Just wondering if having the plastic inserts inside the wheel well for protection restricts sir flow to the Cai? Is air not supposed to be traveling through that area to get to the Cai?

There is plenty of space for air to get to the air box. Only thing better is a track intake aimed through the grill to get forced air into the air box. The plastic guards help keep the engine bay hot air from reaching the inlet tube. You could pull the wheel well liner but then dust and mud get flung up. I have that issue because my liners are cut back a lot for my off-road bumper and I get water and debris in the air box when I go off-roading. Installing a snorkel now because of that. Snorkel goes in tonight. Was letting paint dry before install. I wouldn’t recommend a snorkel for a daily street truck though. The stock setup actually does fairly well which is why all the big CAI manufacturers use the stock inlet area for their intake. I’m just using a larger filter in my air box for increased airflow but kept the paper style so it’s cheap to swap. I used oiled filters before and switched back to stock with a 6.4 air filter and saw 0 difference in performance.

This is so sick!!! Crazy custom work!!! Send pic when snorkels installed and ready for use.
Ya won't be taking my 19' crazy off roading. The most it sees is dusty ass logging roads

i've got an s&b which has an open gap near the wheel well (can be plumbed into the wheel well, funny that's how my GM's ran stock -- although missing the grill scoop which i actually like better) and yes plugging it reduces flow. in my case i plug it because i don't feel like cutting into the fender, and w/o that it just draws hot air from the engine bay. it also gets more dust on dirt roads... so depends on what you are doing. you can buy a filter sleeve or "sock" to protect from that, though i imagine that reduces flow as well. honestly, intake was more of a fun project for me (not producing any power), so i went the safer/lower maintenance route.
