was driving behind a 2500 today with tow mirrors and I kept looking at his, then my non-tow. Has anyone measured to see if the tow mirror glass will fit in our non tow. I obviously could not measure since I was driving, but they look to be of similar shape and size. Just a thought...
No, they are different sizes.

At the end of last week, we have the base designed for the new mirror and now it is being sent to the mirror manufacturer for them to fit the glass.

Simply due to physics and a host of other problems, I had to abandon the idea that I could actually satisfy all the requests that people made with the 1st generation mirror. The second generation mirror will be a corner mount mirror, much like the mirror they had on 3rd Generation Dodge Ram Trucks.

Once the mirror people fit the glass to it, I will then begin testing the design. It is a process...which is a slow process...but headway is being made.

Wade,
Does this mean those of us who ordered a set of the first design will get a replacment set of the new design due to the non
Dimming mirror fitment issue.

YES! I like this design better!

Hey Wade, were you still making a taller mirror that fits the non-dimming mirrors?

schul788...I am not. Although they worked for me, they didn't work for many of my customers in that configuration and to spend another uber amount of $$ on that design, wouldn't have been a stellar decision on my end.

I am working on the corner design, and hopefully that works for more people than the taller design.

Damn I was waiting for them since you said we would get them replaced with the correct fitment around this time through email

X2, I think I would like the first gen mirror rather than the corner mirror, but I'll wait until you have the gen2 complete.

I liked that design too...and still do, but for whatever reason it just didn't work for so many of my customers.

So many complained that the front edge (the edge facing the driver) was too thick. Well...there just was no way of getting around that because of mirror radius and the geometry of actually having the blind spot mirror pick up the area that it needed to.

As crazy as it is, curved mirrors are cut out out of a sphere...not in just one direction, so to try and design something around that (no pun intended) is a trick. Although some thought it was so simple (including me) to design it one way or another, is more difficult than one might think.

I am pursuing the corner mirror and we will see how that goes.

When I first started to design it for the non-dimming mirrors, it was going to be simple...just make one a bit bigger. But, then the complaints started coming in. People said they couldn't see enough, they didn't see anything at all, etc. etc. etc.

I simply had to take a step back and look at the project in whole and see if there is a better solution.

I am sorry it has taken longer than you wished. Manufacturing this stuff is not a cheap venture and I can't afford to rush something out the door if it isn't something that is going to work for my customers. I currently have $13K wrapped up in the first blind spot mirror that is pretty much a total loss. I could have traded my truck in and got one with tow mirrors for that price, so believe me...this hasn't been exactly a fun walk in the park for me either.

Holy crap that is a lot of time and money invested. I for one like the current design but am on board with the newer ones when they come out. Will be watching for when they are on sale, will be purchasing the new ones when they come out.. Thanks for the great work...

So I can look forward to a new set of the corner mirrors rather than a replacement for the passenger one if I understand this correctly. So is there a ETA on this replacement ?

EagleChief,

My manufacturer and I are still working on a workable prototype. We already went through one set of prototypes that nailed down the design and fitment, but it failed in finding the correct curvature. To not get into the physics behind it, it was simply too flat.

Unfortunately, in classes of curved mirrors, you either have very rounded, or flat rounded. There is a hard time finding an in between unless I want to spend the $8,000 to make a specific mold...just for the glass.

Right now we are trying an alternative to glass that many Blind Spot Mirror manufacturers use. That prototype will be finished next week.

Attached is a picture of what the current design looks like.

RodRam,

Yes, that is correct. ETA? It is hard to say. You can read my other current post to see what the latest is. I have dumped more money into this project than I ever wanted. We are still working hard on it, though...but I can't afford to rush this project just to get something out the door. I would say it will be sometime in the Fall before this is in the Market.
