So talking with a muffler shop got me thinking.

Was thinking about cutting my pipes on my 13' Sport right in front the Y and in back of the muffler, and going with a dual in dual out 14" Magnaflow. Should get a whole lot better flow since there wouldn't be any reducing down or Y'ing into 1 pipe for a few feet, right? And that should mean a few more ponies than just the Mufflex kit? Also, how hard would it be to get a brake tag with an exhaust like that?

Thanks!

I doubt you will see much right away, but the more mods you add the more you will benifit from true duals. I know that one of the members is starting to see restriction at 600 rwhp and he has LT headers with a modified Y pipe and magnaflow catback.

Only performance mods I plan on doing is exhaust and vararam intake. just want to make sure I can still get an inspection sticker, that the exhaust wouldn't mess any of that up.

ah yeah I would just stay with the stock exhaust and replace the muffler. If you really feel like you have to get the $30 magnaflow y pipe and have that put in. This should save alot of time and money.

Just looking for the most bang for my buck. was quoted about $325 for a 14" magna flow dual in dual out setup cutting all the old stuff out and running new pipes. If I can squeeze a few more ponies out of it for another $60 over the mufflex, I'd rather go that route, as long as I don't have to go all over for an inspection sticker. My younger days of knowing everyone to not worry about that Lind of stuff are starting to dissappear. Rather just drive up somewhere, be legal and not have to hear any lip. Lol!

I would also like to point out that they are cutting out alot of stainless steal and I would bet for 325 they are not going to put stainless back in. This is for quality sake not really for performance. I'd hate to have brand new exhaust rust out in a few years.

You won't be touching anything forward of the converters. You're fine to make mods from the Y area back as long as it's not louder than any ordinances in your state.
I live in Texas and am in La regularly....I hear plenty of loud stuff around there so I doubt you'll have any worries.

Don't miss an opportunity to put an X pipe crossover in there before you hit the mufflers.

I had that muffler before on a little 408 Dakota. The crossover is actually perforated all the way through. Not exactly the same as a true X pipe up stream. I would never redo an exhaust without a true x pipe crossover. It has a scavenging effect that pulls the gases from the engine.
