What kind of fuel mileage are y’all getting with the Cummins hauling and empty? My wife’s uncle is claiming he is getting 18 towing a 7k pound toy hauler with his 2021 f250 stx with the powerstroke. I think he is mistaken.

Tricky question (lots of variables) but I know he is Not getting 18mpg towing...

Depending on what I am hauling (weight, wind load etc) I'm any where from 11-13mpg on average.

Unloaded I average ~17 give or take running around town and going to work. Do better on straight highway driving, and a little less in big city bumper to bumper driving.

I tow a 41 ft long 16500 lb 13.6 ft tall 5th wheel with my 2020 Ram 3500 dually w/ 3.73 gears usually betwen 62-70 mph, I usually get between 9-11 mpg depending on speed, weather and terrain. Mostly about 9.5 mpg average That's hand calulated mpg. Evic is usally a little higer reading. I've seen 20 mpg empty highway a few tanks. With 60/40 highway city I average just over 16 mpg. I just did 1200 mile rt to Pigeon Forge Tn with less than 20 miles not towing and averaged 9.9 mpg. Also have a buddy claiming 12-14 mpg towing his 14500 lb 12.8 ft tall 5th wheel with his ford ps,when we hand calculated he was right at 9.6 ;) When I plan trips I budget for 9 mpg. Anything over that is extra spending money:) I now have right at 16k miles on the truck. I'm still waiting for that 1-2 mpg increase after the 10k mile mark people kept telling me about:005:

19.7mpg round town, 24-27 highway depending on how flat it is

You really need to hand calculate those numbers to see what your real mileage is. If this is correct you better call FCA and see if they want the truck back to figure out how to get that kind of MPG's out of their other trucks. They could sell a million of them.

Actually, I get fuel and look at my gallons that I filled, then look at my trip odometer, then I use simple math,,,yup accurate.. BTW the truck IS NOT stock..

2021 RAM 3500 CTD, bone stock. I see 17-18mpg around town average and 19-21 mpg highway unloaded, this is hand calculated. Keep in mind that this is a single cab long bed and I live on the coast with no elevation change. I have had four Super Duty's with the 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel previous to this and they got slightly better fuel economy when stock and unloaded so I can attest to the Ford getting better fuel economy at least when unloaded. All of this won't matter once it's lifted and on 37's so I am trying to enjoy the great fuel economy while it lasts haha.

Friend has a 2020 2500 hd Cummins, told me just today towing a 13,000 lb empty 5th wheel he gets 17 mpg and around 21 not towing on interstate 70-75 mph. He’s a great guy, great friend and a BIGguy! For these reasons I didn’t say bs, but very much doubt it.

He might get those numbers if he was always running downhill with a tail wind.

2021 2500 Cummins unload around town is 14-15MPG, only have just under 1000 miles on the truck. Will do a long unloaded trip next weekend. No loaded data yet.

My '19 dually HO gets 9-10 when pulling, and @15 empty. Best ever empty 16. 18 pulling?? I've got some oceanfront property in Quartzsite for sale.
Do you have 4.10 gears?

Yes, I pull at 65 MPH, and that puts me around 1800 RPM, and peak torque. Even empty, I seldom run over 70-72 MPH. 3.73's would only make approx 200 RPM difference.

On Edit:
I had Nitto EXO Grapplers installed from new to get away from the junk Nexen tires. I am at 40K miles and they have lasted OK, but I have battled uneven wear/cupping. I will be going to a less aggressive tire, and think/hope that might yield 1 MPG???

Stock 2018 CC Drw stock tire size, 4Wd 4.10 w/68 trans. Getting 7.5 to 9.8 towing 16k# horse trailer 35' long 11.5' tall.
14.9 to 16.9 running empty. On a rare occasion perfect conditions I got 19.9 running about 60 mph.
Towing on hwy I'm usually at 65 mph. About the same empty, maybe closer to 70mph at times.
