2011 ram 1500 4x4. 3.55 axle ratio

Long story shorr something whinning bad in rear diff
45000 miles on truck. Is this possible pinion bearing shot?

What size diff do i have?

And i also have no fill in cover
Should i replace cover with updated?

Also i had pinion nut recall done about 30000. I wonder if they messed it up

Also saw a recall about low fluid but my truck suposibly was not on that recall.

Lots of questions. Main being how could this be at 44000 and i baby this truck

My guess is yes absolutely the ********* at the stealership could have overtightened the new pinion nut causing to much pinion bearing preload.
The reason I say this is because it has happened to me twice.
The first time was on the rear axle of my 2014 2500 that the pinion seal started leaking and I had it fixed under warranty. Needless to say they over tighten the pinion nut and caused a wine in the rear end. In the end RAM replaced my whole axle assembly.
Second time it happened on the front of one of our 3500 work trucks. Brought the truck in because the front pinion seal was leaking. They also over tighten that pinion nut and caused the pinion bearings to wear out. I would not let them fix that one because it was not under warranty any longer they refunded my money and I brought it to a local differential shop and had them rebuild the front differential.
I don't want to be a Debbie Downer just letting you know what has happened to me in the past with Pinon nuts.

The dealership did the same to me on my old truck. Over tightened the nut and caused the pinion bearing to fail at 22k.

I more ok with a dealer mess up thsn just a failure i guess.
If that makes sense

I wonder what the chances are of getting this covered by dealer. Probs slim to none

Go back to them and tell them you think they overtightened the pinion nut and what can they do to make it right.
Start there.

Being a 2011 you should have the 235mm ZF rear end. The earlier AAM diff is the one generally referred to as the 9.25 diff.

Fill and drain from the 2 plugs on the front side of the diff. The hole in the cover I think started around the late 2012's early 2013s,before that the fill hole was in the housing itself.

I usually get p/n from places like mymoparparts & plug p/n in at rockauto.
Compare prices & order from 1 or the other.
