I have read through this whole Thread over the last two days and we seem to be on the fence for this topic. So, when adding Bilsteins at 2.1, (I dont believe in maxing anything out) will I need to swap UCAs?

I'm thinking of going with bilsteins 2.1 to level, 3" body lift.

2014 1500 4x4 crew cab diesel.

From what I've seen its basically been 50/50. You could just do the swap and not have any worries or leave the stick uca's in and hope you get lucky.

Ya, I thought that too. Im curious to see if the UCA are the same with the different engine. I guess the diesel is a few hundred more pounds. But in that case that might make the difference in me having to change them from the added stress!

Another thing I just thought of, when doing a body lift 3", what is the need for the bumper mounts? does that drop the bumpers back to stock height? Why would you want to do that??

Install Bilstein shocks and if the ball joints start coming out, replace them.
If your shelling out money for lift and level, the 400 for new UCA is a drop in bucket.

I wouldnt say a drop in the bucket, because it will account for about half the total cost... but easily absorbed would be a better way to put it.

This seems to be all over, no consistency at all. I've heard of some getting by with the 2.1" setting but one guy said his popped at 1.4" setting. If you're on a budget, here's a cool alternative of putting older 4th Gen UCA's on a newer truck.

Cruizer .. So you are suggesting ordering new 2012 UCAs and installing them? Wouldnt they be built the same as the problem ones from 2014?

no, he is suggesting finding low mileage used from a 2012 or earlier since those are not having any issues...anything new is going to be the new style and will result in the same issue

Yeah, I'm not suggesting anything. That's someone else's suggestion I referenced. But to answer the question, I'd try and find some at a scrap yard or something. Seems the cost is considerably lower than some of the options other's have went with.

Also noticed you question on the body lift, just did a 3" on mine. The bumper brackets are to raise the bumper to the height the body is at. The bumper is mounted to the frame, not the body.
