My 99 RAM 1500 5.9 Magnum has Champion 3436 platinum plugs in it. I ordered new plugs, same part number and they are much smaller. No shop had the plugs I need! Someone please help!

much smaller as in length or the threads are smaller diameter? That IS the correct plug for your truck.

The plugs that I ordered from Summit Racing are smaller and have JN stamped on them. The ones in the truck are a larger diameter and AI (or A1) Stamped on them.

To be honest I don't know. :/ Just got the truck a few weeks ago. Guess I should have asked.

hard to see from those pictures, but is it possible that the old plug has a helicoil on it or some kind of threaded insert that came out when you unscrewed the plug? Do ALL your old plugs have the same larger thread?

You know what, I haven't pulled any others out... I'm gonna go do that.

So I pulled a different plug and it was smaller than the first plug i pulled and the threads were different. It was also the same as the ones from summit racing. So what do I do about the thing the first plug pulled out?

You're kinda in a bind...

Options -
1. Replace head. Ugh.
2. Put new helicoil in offending cylinder, auto parts store should be able to help you out. Take the old plug with the helicoil, a new plug with you...

You really shouldn't reuse helicoils. The bad thing about having the head on the truck is that you really need to run a tap down the plug hole to make sure the threads are good to accept the new helicoil. With the head on the engine, you run a slight rick of chasing debris into the cylinder, though you could blow and/or vacuum it out. The other part of this is it's something you'll need to be wary of every time you change the plugs.

edit: and agree, the copper plugs will save you some dough and work just fine.

That's good to know. Thank you for all the help! Oh, and on summit racing, the copper/platinum are $1.97 each...

lol... forgot you didn't have 16 of them...

So on sort of an unrelated side note, what should I do in terms of a muffler? I don't want it to be insanely loud, but I also don't want it to sound stock. I got a replacement cat since mine is clogged and want to do them both at the same time.

I have a flowmaster super 44 on my truck with a side dump before the wheel. Sounds awesome. Not too loud, but loud enough to sound good.
