Hey guys,

When I first bought the truck I purchased some rubber door guards that stick onto the edges of the door to prevent them from getting chipped. While I love the way they look, they sometimes get loose and the adhesive gets on the door and it is a nightmare if you end up touching it.

I bought these cheap ones from AutoZone. However I am tired of the sticky crap. My girlfriend and her family have a guy that puts on similar stuff but it is larger and doesn't look as clean IMO.

Anyone have recommendations for anything?

In my experience with like products on past vehicles, the adhesive issue is a nature of the beast thing as you do not want something so strong that it peels the paint off if you choose to remove them.

What about cleaning off the adhesive and using silicone to attach them? That worked well for the trim around my Road Glide windshield. Held better than the adhesive since it wasn't affected as much by the sun.

Excellent point. I know she has no issues with hers, but their family doesn't keep a car long enough for this to become an issue.

Also good point on the silicone... wonder if that would affect the paint at all.

Seems easier to just not bang your door into other cars than to deal with that adhesive nonsense and autozone custom look. Unless you have the triple blade wipers with the wing, then it's cool.

Yeah. Not trying to sound like a jerk, but do you normally open your doors into other people's vehicles, walls, buildings, etc?

No I am very careful with my doors but for the $20 spent on it it is a very good piece of mind from the one time I slip up or a passenger slips up. It's not a custom look at all, you would be hard pressed to even notice them unless you were looking, which is what I like about it.

I'm in the market for edge guards too. My driveway is narrow with house on one side and fence on the other. Sometimes the wind takes the door and if you can't catch it there is nothing that can be done. Would be cheap insurance, but I want something that will look good.
