Does anyone have the info of the size of the pipe that is used in the drone suppression pipe kit made by mufflex DODJP? I think it could be 2.5" and just wanted to make sure… Im going to be swapping my 18" muffler for a catback and hope there is no drone. I hope there isn't as its a 23" case long muffler.

It also doesn't seem to be carried by moes? I know its priced at $165.

I would find it hard to imagine that there would be a noticeable drone created with that system. That is a huge muffler.

Try it. If it seems to be making a tone or cab vibe that you do not like, re-install the factory "soup can" sized resonator in line prior to the muffler.

Some times it all comes down to personal preference. Some little bit of noise at a certain decibel will make sensitive folks plain crazy, while others, never even detect a difference.

Good luck. A little experimentation is always to be expected to get it "Just Right' to your own ear.

:)

Well I get noticable drone in the 1600-1900 range with my 18".

also my OEM truck exhaust did not have a resonater before the muffler, just at the duo tips.

I hope it does not resonate, truck sounds great as long as I'm not on the highway or cruising in the 55mph-70mph rsnge.

Already got the dynomax 39480 I think it is. retail is $350 but I got it for $229 shipped plus I'll get another $50 off... so it was a no brainer. Gives me a quieter muffler, no resonators, and 4" tips.

Which means I'm gona be selling my 18" bolt in muffler very soon if anyone's interested.

Dynomax is going to be a good bit louder than the Jones Max even if it is longer so be prepared. You might get drone but it shouldnt be bad. I had a dynomax on my Grand Cherokees (5.7L) and it was great. No drone.

Really? Ahh crap. I'm surprised by that comment, why is it louder?

I figured the muffler is a simular design as the Jones muffler is straight through perforated core, the dynomax max is the same but has a large blocking plate at the rear exits which should block some sound but prob hurt flow alittle too and given its got 5" more case to pass through should give the sound alittle more time to get absorbed. Unless it's due to the 2.5" pipe sizes, no resonators and large tips.

The kit uses a dynomax ultraflow SS muffler.

Thanks for the heads up.

Well I spent a few hours putting in the dynomax catback yesterday… Not super happy with the fitment of the tail pipes (by the tips) and started it up last night kinda late when I finished. The driver side tailpipe fits like Poo… hangs very low like they didn't put enough bend in the small pipe that the tip connects to. I tried to bend it alittle more in my pipe bender which turned out to just crush the pipe…. ugh.

Good news is that the exhaust sounds good, cold start seems slightly louder and deeper (larger pipes and no resonators i assume). But revving it seemed quieter in the cab. I haven't taken the truck out to drive to check for resonance yet but just wanted to update this thread.

Yeah, thats why the DYnomax is so cheap. I had the same issue on my JGC, tailpipe fitment was awful. So bad that I drilled a new hole in the rubber connector holding it just to get it to line up.

It actually sounded very good though on my JGC 5.7L and I took it on a 2400 mile trip without having any drone.

Its not that bad. Honestly maybe 1" or so from the bumper cutout. Pics look funny bc of the black tips and the shadow but it doesn't look all that bad. Hope to get it out and see about resonance and drone. Also posting a pic of the muffler difference… quite a bit!!! Don't like how the dynomax isn't fully welded tho.

Here are some pics.
