Durability Upgrades?

I'm wondering what's out there for upgrades for these trucks. From what I've been told, the plastic intake is a little problematic. I've also heard and read plenty of stories about these engines self destructing with relatively low miles. On the other hand, some are getting 200,000 plus miles and have had no problems.
I drove one for the first time the other day and was impressed. Seemed to have great power, run smooth and quiet and the mileage according to the dash was incredible.

I love mine. It's still stock, but a 2" leveling kit and 33/12.50/20 tires and I still get up to 25mpg on the freeway at 70 - 80mph
