I wish e85 was more available. I would set up for it and run nothing but it

in order to break even for the loss in milage the e85 needs to be approx 40% cheaper than regular.

otherwise there is really no advantage in using it IMO.

LOL. It is for me. I work in R&D for Dupont in Ethanol. You will be helping my family eat.

With my wifes jeep it went from 20.5 average to around 16.5 to 17 average. Gas here is 3.55 to 3.85 per gallon and e85 is 2.89 so getting close to the breakeven point.

E85 is only good when you're tuned to run it all the time. Sure some trucks can run it safely. But it'll kill the mileage. The only guy I know who runs e85 is my friend with a built Evo that's tuned specifically for it.

It's not "only good" for that but yes it is recommended to go that route if you want to use it. The only reason for the mileage drop is vehicles are designed to run on both gas and e85. A motor built specifically for e85 will get about the same mileage with a lot more power.

false. to break even you'd need E85 to be 20-25% less expensive because your typical increase in consumption is 20-25%.

So, given that a 16mpg truck would go down to roughly 12mpg, you'd need a gallon of E85 to be 2.67 to break even vs a 3.55 gallon of gas, any less and you're making money.
