When the truck goes into eco mode, is there a light or any kind of indicator on the dash?

It’s when the MSS kicks in, and the drone starts, and an accelerator lag to get it back out ....

there have been many threads about eco vs mds ( where the engine drops cylinders).

my experience , on my 14, is that the eco green light in the cluster comes on when MDS does...if i disable w shift+/- i never see the eco light no matter how gingerly i use the accelerator

others experience that they are not tied together , and they can see the eco light after disabling MDS

On my 2018, the ECO indicator on the dash does not directly coincide with the MDS function. Perhaps others operate differently, but it seems we haven't found the year break where that changed.

My truck has the 'fancy screen' (whatever the correct term is) and I can choose to show or hide the ECO indicator on the dash through controls in the radio.

Mine comes on all the time when I’m light on the throttle. No lag no vibration. I disabled the 4 cyl crap with Hptuners though.

As with most other things having to do with these trucks I'm apparently living in a magical unicorn kingdom because when MDS kicks in on my Ram it's transparent and seamless with no drone and no lag.

Man I lucked out I have great headlights from the factory, no engine problems using the oil viscosity specified in the manual, no problems with MDS, never killed a Bilstein, haven't had any trouble with my 6 speed transmission or the non preload LSD, I get the same performance and mileage on e10 as on e0.. Truly a miracle how I lucked out on every single thing everyone complains about.

For the eco indicator it can be enabled or disabled in the menu for your dash display, dig around in the config screen and you'll find the option. By all accounts the eco indicator isn't directly related to whether MDS is active, though I expect most of the time they're looking at the same set of conditions.

Agreed, aside from the headlights. I wouldn't call them great with halogens inside. BTW, I run e15 at all times.

Eco comes on in more situations than does the actual mds function.

Thanks, I'll look in the settings. I seem to remember a light when I first got it, that is why I asked.

Dennis, do you know what style cluster you have in your 2017 Tradesman?

My 2017 express and my current 2019 SLT have the basic cluster and any time ECO mode was activated you'd see a little "ECO" message at the top of the LCD "EVIC" if that's the proper term. It's the readout in the center of the cluster.

I have the most basic cluster. Small message center in the middle.

That being the case, you should see that "eco" message at the top of the message center by the compass. It will kick on/off depending on how much go pedal is in use.

On the 2009 - to maybe the 2012 Hemi powered Rams
It read Fuel Saver instead of ECO & was displayed down near the bottom right corner of the instrument panel
That light would come on when ever you let up on the throttle.
It never came on once the truck was traveling over 73 MPH
