I'm in just to see what y'all have to say about the truck.

Some questions that I have about the truck is what are some real world gas mileage numbers.

How is the power? Does it feel anymore powerful than the Hemi?

Is there good aftermarket support as far as making more power?

fuelly.com will be your best bet for real world mpg.

Power can't hold a candle to the hemi IMO. I've driven both, my hemi would wipe the floor with the ED in a race, it'll tow more too. That being said the ED is made for light towing and great fuel mileage which it does very well. For what it is it has lots of power though!

As of yet there isn't a whole lot of big power upgrades for the ED yet as it's fairly new. I'd imagine in the next year You'll see a lot of great options for it pop up. Rolling smoke diesel had a tester unit he's driving around. I think he's tried all the different tuners on it!

My opnion on the ED is pretty stright forward. The cost generally doesn't justifiy it atleast to me. If you have a small lawn care service or any business that requires a you to pull a trailer or load frequently up to 6k range the ED then would justifiy it's self that's my personally opnion I think the idea is awesome just would like to see the ED upgrade in the 2k range not 4grand.

i calculated i needed to drive the ecodiesel 125k just to break even on the initial premium for the motor, that does not include extra maintenance and DEF costs.

i dont plan on owning a dodge up to 100k xD

This is pretty much what I agree with. It would be a good option for a company or someone who has to tow light-medium loads consistently. Then the fuel economy difference would really pay for itself compared to gas. But for most people, I doubt you'll save any money in the long run compared to a Hemi, I'd expect if you were to keep it 150k+, it would probably end up costing pretty much the same as a Hemi, given the premium price and little bit higher maintenance costs for the diesel, while delivering better fuel economy and expect a little more resale.

You have to think of resale value too though. Like the 3/4 ton diesels hold their value a lot better than the gas versions. Time will tell if that holds true to the ecodiesel, which would offset the difference to buy the truck.

I'm new here, had a 14 eco-d for 10 months and traded it in with 22k miles. Ran perfect for the first 19k miles then trouble started. Replaced the DPF-cat converter first. Month later dealer wanted my truck for a week to pull all the injectors, send them away to have them cleaned, then reinstall. I travel for work and need my truck !! Last 3k miles the CEL was on and off every week. Injectors was the last straw so I dumped it for a hemi ram. Loved the mpg but not worth the hassle to me.

This is a possibility your right only time will tell but until we know that for sure you really can't bank on it. It really is a awesome idea 5 years before ram did it I had been saying that the 1/2 tons need a 4cyl cummings like the bt4 with 200hp and 400tq I figured they would get closer to mid 30's but 30 it's self if pretty good. They will improve on this design and they will become more worth it in a few more years I beleieve.
