So this is going to sound like a complete bonehead question, but I just purchased a 2014 Dogde Ram 1500 Laramie with the 5.7 hemi. Within a couple of hrs of driving the check engine light came on. It seems to be running fine....no issues at all. All the gauges work, rechecked the gas cap....since I filled up a few minutes prior, and all fluids are good. I went to the dealer today and they checked it out and found nothing wrong either, but he did notice something that I suspected about the truck. The truck was fitted with high performance headers and the rest of the exhaust was modified for performance as well. (The state of Oklahoma has zero emission laws) He said he sees it all the time. He said it's fine, safe and not to worry, but I should fine a performance shop that can tune the truck so the engine light will go away. He stated that it's not something he can do. I attached a couple pics of the exhaust. Any opinions?

I'll just add.....this my first Dodge. For the past 17 yrs, I've been driving a 2000 Tundra that I traded in with 338000 miles.

Weird the light is on, but can't tell you what the code is for. Could be from those long tube headers if they didn't do a tune. From what I'm reading. Checking into exhaust myself. Welcome to the forum.

Something else, i went to a dealer once to get a specific code read on my truck, (Ford at the time) even paid them the diagnostic fee. It was an ABS code, which i couldn't read. They said it was a sensor, i said duh, I figured that , which one ( so i could change it myself). They said i donno the mechanic had already went home. I was less that happy. Anyway what im getting at is they may be vague at times if they don't ( feel ) your going to let them do the job. Invest in a scan tool, you can get a cheap bluetooth dongle (ELM 327) online and a free app on phone usually and check the code yourself, or even go to a local auto parts store they usually do it for free. Get back on here tell us what the code is maybe we can help.

I'd be real interested in what the code is. Did the dealer not tell you?

You can get codes read at most auto parts stores. Most don't charge you to do it.

Having the code will be key to diagnosing, and fixing, the problem.

Looks like high flow cats.. probably a code related to the system thinking the cats aren't working. I bet that system you've got there is loud.

Not sure how to do that......my 2014 uses a fob. All I need to do is press the brake and push a button to start the truck.

It's got a bit of volume especially at startup or if I put my foot down, but it's really not to bad

There's a tire shop close by that can read the code for me. I'll stop by there in a couple days and post my findings.

I bet the truck was tuned and had a few more bolt ons before the last owner sold.

the code is probably a rear o2 sensor malfunction code, might be 2 codes stored. I can’t tell if you have rear o2’s from the pic but it looks like you don’t. the tune probably tricked the truck into thinking they were still there
