Well, I hauled a lot of gravel in my truck for fifty miles yesterday, had no issues, it was running amazing. I got home, unloaded in the back yard, and when I started it up to pull back up the hill and park it stalled. I was able to limp it back and park it but I had to pump the gas pedal constantly to keep it running and it ran like crap. Today I started it and it started right up, idled okay, and drove, but when I rev it up it makes a rough grinding noise and vibrates a bit. It used to have a very smooth, easy acceleration. Does anyone know what might of happened? Thanks

The Archangel Michael smote the pickup as;Leviticus 23: 4-18: "he that scopeth a lever, or dost allow a scope to lie with a lever as it would lie with a bolt action, shall have created an abomination and shall perish in the fires of Hell forever and ever." :angels2::favorites13:

All kidding aside, you are going to need to give us a whole bunch more diagnostic info before anyone is going to remotely be able to help you

You're driving a 1986 with a 318? Good God man, stick a fork in it.
Literally, every mile is a gift.

It looks gorgeous in the pic but isn't it a little long in the tooth to
be hauling gravel instead of groceries and little league kids?

Lol, I'm driving this rig till the wheels fall off, man. It's been a hard working farm truck since it was drove off the lot and it's not ready to stop just yet. I really don't care what I have to do to it, I know it's made better than anything new.

I talked to a friend of mine who works on these a lot and he suggested putting a new fuel pump on, so I'll see if that works. Still got the original 1986 mechanical pump so probably about time anyway...

The bit you want to isolate is what you called the rough grinding noise. Guy wants to figure out what is causing that before you do serious damage, and it is not at all likely that is caused by the mechanical fuel pump going south.

Yeah, rough grinding heard noise on a 318 sure as heck NOT sound like a fuel pump. Could be a myriad of things: Between issues on top or bottom of motor, a bad idler pulley coming apart, (if noise made moving, bad ball joints/parts), (tranny), all depends upon where noise is, and exactly what it sounds like. Just too many different ways to go to do an Internet Guessnosis, lol. All IMHO only.
