After going through several 4.7s in under 10k miles decide to install a 5.7 hemi from a 2008 charger in my 2008 ram 1500.

Can anyone give me input on this or past experiences.

First question: are you sure you're ready for this? And why a Charger engine lol?

Tired of problems w 4.7. ran great n made great power but persistent ticking sound from three builds is enough. Charger had 84k on it w 5.7 and paid 1000.00 for whole car. Should bolt in easily w minor mods to engine mount.

Apparently your guy didn't tell you that you were gonna be swapping intake manifolds, front timing covers, oil pans, dipstick tubes and massively altering a wiring harness in an attempt to run a 5.7 on a 4.7 PCM lol?
Or I assume you're just paying him to figure it out lol?

I would think engine mounts will be the easiest part of that swap. Can you write a 5.7 calibration into a 4.7 PCM? A 5.7 from a same year donor truck with the harness and PCM might be considerably easier.

It would be since the 4.7 became fly by wire (like the hemi) in 2008. You could custom tune the 4.7 PCM with the 5.7 parameters, but you most likely couldn't successfully load an actual 5.7 flash into that PCM.

Your best bet would probably be to find a 08 5.7 PCM and engine harness. You'll probably have to buy lots of random odd parts from a 5.7 truck anyways. Definitely the safer alternative to possibly messing up a wiring harness and maybe breaking your PCM with a computer flash. Not saying you WOULD by any means, but buying the parts out of a truck made for the 5.7 reduces the chance of a wiring or PCM issue arising.

Besides, you could just sell the unaltered 4.7 wire harness and PCM after you're done and get a bit of the money back

Your lost brother. Two maybe three things need changed. First is toner ring which comes w stroker kit. 32 teeth same as,4.7
.second is cam position sensor ring.
.and last may be throttle body.
My computer don't know it's running a 5.7 or a 4.7 or 6.1. it only knows what the sensor tells it. So let us f my crankshaft n camshaft sensor rings are same in 5.7 and 4.7 problem solved
.my tuner and computer guy handle the A/F
.ratios.
.keep believing you need to change wiring harness while I'm tearing up the streets of Detroit picking up chicks.

Yes, I'm sure Detroit chicks will be all over your 52yr old ass in your beater 3rd gen Ram lol. Maybe the hookers....
I look forward to seeing lots of pics on this. I hold no illusion that there actually will be any of any real substance LMAO, especially dealing with your PCM, but I hope there are, all the way to the unlikely finished result. :Big Laugh::Big Laugh::Big Laugh::Big Laugh:

A little advice here... have a reliable method of transportation during this project.

Now, having swapped this into that, doing what others said couldn’t / shouldn’t be done and having a full set of engine shoehorns, go for it.

Measure twice, cut once...And when in doubt all problems can be solved with dollars.

No worries to the haters who think I will not follow through here. I like lames who tell me I can't do something. I'm doing my homework n measuring twice before cutting...the **** talkers should do same.

Stay tuned as I do have a day job tearing out city streets and sidewalks in Detroit that pays for my parts so this will take a month or so to complete.a86f891d072267410bc01b4725962e6e.jpg3101c8dc1ee97968097dea8c1fd645c5.jpg7b512497b216b11e05740d2c4c0b5ea9.jpgd212c6fced3696379a04f4ea125d0b5a.jpg

So how'd this work out? What problems did you come across, and how were they overcome?

My biggest worry us F/A ratio. Will be 392 w 5.7 heads for torque. Cam will
Compensate for smaller valves. Will be custom grind w end hp around 600 w pump gas.
