Hi I have an 02 1500 4.7 and it’s getting tired. I keep thinking about putting a Magnum 5.9 in it. What all do I need to change besides the obvious engine? ECM, transmission, exhaust Y pipe, ?

I would suggest buying whatever the Magnum is in and running with that. This kind of stuff is a fools errand many times.

eaiser to buy another truck the 4.7 is a good engine just swap it out or rebuild its a very easy engine to rebuild/work on how many miles on it? a 4.7 is tired when it hits 200k miles usually.

I have performed this swap multiple times. If you have the proper parts it's a pretty straightforward task. If you start swapping things over and figure out what you need as you go along it can be very frustrating. Here is a list of what is needed..

5.9 Magnum Engine

PCM - if using a used PCM from a donor truck you will need to verify if your truck has a Grey SKIM Key or a black non-SKIM key. If you have SKIM in your truck you will need to get the SKIM/Key Code from your local Mopar Dealership parts department. It is a 4 digit code used to program SKIM keys.

Also, you will need to have the used PCM programmed with your VIN and Mileage to avoid the ABS mismatch DTC. If you have SKIM you will need to program your current SKIM key and transfer the secret key data to the PCM using a proper scan tool or the truck will start and die with a flashing red security lamp in the cluster.

46RE Transmission w/Torque Converter
You will also need to adapter shim that goes between the transmission bellhousing and the engine block.

Transmission cooler lines

Driveshaft

Engine wiring harness along with the headlamp harness

5.9 magnum starter

A/C lines

Radiator hoses

Heater hoses

Fan shroud

This is what I can think of off the top of my head sitting at my son's baseball game. When I am home tonight I will post the rest.

Yeah, I had 04 like that, good motor, strong never did not like it, you probably would be doing yourself a favor by putting the same engine back for the replacement. Unless you want to jam a Hemi in that truck and change the rear, spend your money like crazy. Just my opinion, hope it all works out for you.

It's the same 9¼ rear, why would it get changed....?
