Engine tick... 5.2l 1996 Dodge Ram 1500

So... this is an odd one. I have a 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2l. She sat for about 2 years and finally got her up and running. Well she ticks pretty loudly from startup to shut off. Had figured was a lifter tick and had just resigned to deal with it after 3 shops agreed. However... it's been wet so I ran bit fast through a puddle and suddenly tick is 90% quietter! As it drys it gets louder. Any ideas?

Must be external. Belt system?

I already replaced the idler pulley and put a new belt on it

Belt tensioner? Belt tensioner puilley? Alternator, ac compressor, waterpump etc... There are still more systems to check.

If driving through a puddle made your truck quiet down I think kdoublep is onto something here.

Its pretty tough to diagnose a problem over the internet, can you post a video to youtube and share a link? Worth a shot maybe?
