ok maybe more than one question
1. what is the purpose of tips do they do anything other than look good?
2. how many people out there removed the catalytic converter?
3. if you removed the catalytic converter how do you do the install?
4. is any of this making sense
5. what kind of tips are recommended and should I keep, punch, or eliminate my catalytic converter?

1: they are for looks and sound. can help with it being deep or not.
2: some people remove them, some dont. just have to make sure you get some sort of simulator to remove the check engine light
3: just go from headers>piping
4:yes
5:get a decent length and maybe a 4inch wide one. and keep the cats.

Rear Exit Dual exhaust wanting a deep throaty sound without noticeable drone over the radio

i have a flowmaster 40s and its pretty deep. not throaty, but deep and its loud if your outside the truck. the cutout is loud, throaty, deep, and easily over powers the radio.

I had an 05 4.7 and had a knockoff Flowmaster put on it, and dualed out the back with 4 inch magnaflow tips. To me, it had a deep sound, a little drone, but nothing bad.

I have a 40 series flowmaster that is dumped under the truck and it's not loud in the cab at all and it sounds great. The tips will make it louder and sometimes raspy. It's kinda like a science experiment tryin to find an exhaust you like, lol.

I think I will go to 4" tips when I am ready but don't want raspy

i have been pondering the same questions only i have a 3.7 and thought about putting duals on it. The single exhaust already sounds mean for a v6
