Hi,

Will likely be purchasing an Ecodiesel soon and for the first time ever, am considering an extended warranty.

My question is, is there a warranty out there that lists "what is not covered" as opposed to "what is covered"?

--It seems to me that the "what's covered" warranty format leaves a lot of surprises and wiggle room for the warranty supplier.
Whereas a warranty that lists "what's not covered" by it's nature is much more transparent and obvious. ...Much less wiggle room/room to hide if some one wants to deny your warranty claim.

Anybody know of "what's not covered" warranty format?

Thanks.

Seriously, you cannot wrap your mind around that everything that is not mentioned in the "what is covered" language is not covered?

Hoot thats a little harsh... If its is the Manufacturers warranty usually everything bumper to bumper will be covered but after the PT warranty is up ANY modifications could void it, Whereas a third party extended warranty is hit or miss, as well ANYthing could void the warranty... I got one on my Honda a long time ago and as soon as i bought the honda the tranny went out, and the warranty company said, sorry it had the wrong wheel bearings and we are not going to cover it... So i had a extended warranty as well as a tranny bill

So if you are not a modder, do plan on doing anything to your truck except maintenance and driving it, Manufacturers warranty is prolly solid, and they also offer life time.

Whereas if its 3rd party, farting in your truck may cause it to void warranty because the extra gas cause increase in HP and caused your rear end to break...:homoswitch:

Yeah, I guess. My apologies. Just seems a weird way to look for answer in an inverse way.

I can't blame OP for asking. Lawyer language leaves a lot of room for weaseling out of things, and that's the language in which warranties are written.

if you look at the 3 or 4 different chrysler plans whats covered is based on the plan you buy.

OP keep in mind extended warranties are negotiable

extended warranties all vary, most will look for anything and everything to deny a claim. that's from personal expierence and service managers mouths

Even if there was a list of what is "not covered", it would take away of what is covered. Kinda like the news.....always focusing on the negative, and ignoring the positives.

Unless you have a specific item in mind, I wouldn't worry about it from a warranty standpoint. All of the major internals is covered for 100k miles.

I wouldnt expect much is covered since they dont even really cover sh** for the regular warranty that comes from new. Always having excuses or blaming the customer when it is time to make a claim I read.

I feel OP's question is a fair one.

The two types about which you're discussing:

1) "Named Inclusion" (Laundry list of things that are covered.)
2) "Named Exclusion" (Laundry list of things that are *NOT* covered.)

My experience with (1) is that I'll get screwed. Some how, some way, they'll find a way to not cover the super-duper, rocket fuel based grease required to install the new part and it's going to cost me money.

I've had better (but still not great) experiences with (2). Reasons: there's typically a deductible and even if not, the repair takes forever. Like a week or more sometimes. So then you're in a rental car for that week and let's face it - they don't rent you a full size, crew cab truck.

I'm not a modder - all my vehicles stay stock but these are my $0.02. I passed on the Extended Warranty.

The lifetime warranty isn't available for the diesel and my guess is all the extended warranties will be more for the diesel. Let us know if the factory extended warranties are available for the diesels.
