So, this summer before I head off to college, I plan on fixing all the dings and scratches on my truck, having my stepdad repaint both bumpers, the grille, and the hood, and then put a couple extra layers of clear coat over the whole truck.

My question is, would putting the extra layers of clear coat have any benefit? And to those of you that have done it, how much would it cost?

I figured extra costs would give me more protection and that wet look.

I had the guy that repainted my truck put 3 extra coats of clear on it. It definately shines a ton... but I already have a tiny knick in the front hood. Really small, but that's what I get for driving behind a big truck. But I think it's worth it!

I too have the 3 extra coats of clear. I had 2 coats put on it when I purchased it and it did not help much when I had my bad offroad opps. After I got a new paint job they did 3 coats and it seems to help more but like turp said things can still happen to the paint.

I just want that shiny wet look. Also considered getting a clear wrap.

The trail I was driving on collapsed under my truck and I went down a mountain in my truck. I went through brush, bushes and trees. That is why I needed a new paint job.

Trup got his, because his truck got trashed by a tornado.

Here's the truck, everythings scratched, couple dents and dings on each door.

Everythings covered in water and glass and dirt

Piece of wood flew through the window and landed in my passenger seat

Every panel on the truck has nicks, dents and scratches. and I mean every panel (sigh)

Anyone else have any opinions? Any idea how much it'll cost to get 3 coats or so of clear coat? Would it help? Or would I be better off getting a clear wrap to protect the paint.

I think you're better off getting the clear as well.... It will look good and make all of it match. When I got my rollpan and tailgate painted, they blended it to the bed and then cleared just the bed, and now my cab is original 2004 clear and the bed is high quality 2011 clear lol and it looks **** in the sunlight.

I have no clue how much it'll cost, but you could ask Mastercraft in Ovilla

extra clear will cost a LOT. clear is not cheap, and the prep would be $$. They would have to scuff the entire vehicle and then buff it all to do this.

Well. Remember. I have all the available tools and supplies to do this myself. As my parents own a paint shop. So the buffing, the scuffing, and the paint could be supplied for less.
