So My Ram air thru a code over the summer. I was on a big road trip and i had my scanned with me and I just cleared it. I was not expecting this to be the fix. But the issue did not repeat. Until now. I was on another trip and the suspension failed and was hitting every bump like a bottom out feeling. I pulled over and cleared the code. I heard the compressor kick on. It did its thing and I got going again. I was able to get to my destination. On way home I thru it again. It seems to only happen at highway speeds. I did lots of local driving with no issues. I was able to clear it again. Almost home and it thru again. Was not able to clear it. No compressor sound. I assume compressor is toast. I did not feel it was a leak issue because I went so long in-between events. Right now, the truck is not drivable. all bumps are like a bottom out feeling. I have to come up with a plan.

1- get some advice from you all and get it back up ang running. (the 40amp fuse is good. I pulled it and checked continuity). Can I assume since i can not clear the code the pump is toast? Is there a way to test the pump? maybe check for voltage at it? Any next step advice would be appreciated.

2- or do an Air delete? I already explored some kits. But I am really not a quitter.

I am in LI NY. Are there any notable shops here that deal with this issue? I do like to do work but if there is a pro that is knowledgeable of this I am happy to work with them.

Sometimes if there is a pump issue, especially with a leak, you get a screen notification that the pump is in cool down and temp. unavailable.
You could turn the system on and see if you gat power to the pump, then go from there. If no power to the pump, then it is an electronic issue upstream most likely.

Did you search for threads on the air system in the forum? There are a number of them and you might find some answers.

I had a similar issue on my 15 Laramie. I would pull over, let it cool down about 15 minutes and then continue my trip. Finally bottomed out and would not raise. I was thinking compressor, turned out to be rear springs. I sent it to a dealer knowing it was going to be a $3k repair. With the new air springs, system worked better than ever had.
Good luck.

Talk to @Quick_Shifter he is in PA. Worth the ride out there. If you decide to not go to his shop and want to go to an air ride delete we can help you with the parts. We have helped many members here convert over to a traditional suspension. Those air suspensions seem to have more issues in the colder climates

We have well over 500 successful conversions no lights on dash. Truck riding way better and more reliable. Only Ram shop on the east coast I wish there were more but nobody can seem to figure these trucks out unfortunately.

I went ahead with a delete kit. I miss the old stock feature but now I have piece of mind for my daily driver. If anyone needs parts reach out to me.

Once switching over to traditional suspension, how do you keep the error from appearing on the dash? I used alphaOBD to set all options related to the air suspension to "No" but the message still comes back after every start. I also pulled to 40amp fuse for the compressor. Is there also a setting in the ECM? What am I missing?
2018 RAM 2500 Limited.

Thanks

Nevermind, I just resolved my issue. I did the conversion last summer and just now got everything to do the alphaOBD steps. I discovered that I removed the relay so the air compressor wouldn't run, but I didnt pull any fuses. Once I removed the three fuses the error went away.

So for anyone else, remove
F5 (40 Amp): Compressor
F50 (20 Amp): Control Module
F87 (20 Amp): Air Suspension
Relay 3: Air Suspension Relay
