Extremely Loud Drone

Happened a few times the past months. This was after an hour of driving. I started it up from parked and the drone noise was extremely loud from 1000rpm to 3000rpm. Shut the truck off and started it up again. Then it went away. Why does it do that?

Could be the ANC, dealer has an software updated if your Ram is a early 2019.

Is this a loud sound like an engine brake? My 2019 has made this roaring sound 2 times in 5000 miles. Dealer said he has never heard of the problem.

this weekend while towing I got a mind numbing drone sound at 2200 rpm and 70 mph..on the flats my truck would be at 2000 and 70 mph and darn near silent but when going up a grade caused downshift to 2200 the noise was deafening. steeper inclines that caused downshift to 2750 rpm no noise so trying to figure out what gives.

The drone problems I had were related to MDS. Doesn’t sound like your was in MDS mode. But next it happens, turn the MDS off, if it’s still doing it, put your window down. I’ve heard the ANC will deactivate with the window down. Keep us posted.

I have 5300 miles on mine and had that same loud drone sound last week. It happened just as I finished backing out of a parking spot, put it in D and started pulling forward. It continued as I pulled out in traffic. I immediately pulled into another parking lot and shut the engine off. It went away but I will be mentioning it to the dealer when it goes in for it’s first oil change.
