I decided to completely debadge my truck and everything was going good til I got to the grill. I have an slt with the factory chrome plated grill and Im wanting to match the grill with the body like a sport model. I removed my ram emblem off of my grill and filled it with bondo and smoothed it out, sort of how the aftermarket grills without the cross sections are. But now I need to get the chrome off and acetone doesnt work. And I sure dont want this to take a week or more to do since its already been a week already between priming and striping it down and all. Is there any suggestions?

sorry i havent updated in a while. but i finally did get all of the chrome off. but i am waiting right now saving some money up to have it professionally painted at a local body shop. to avoid a LONG and TEDIOUS process i strongly suggest to just buy a black paintable grille and have it painted. but the following is what i did. the easiest way that i found was to take a scothbrite pad that is on the attachment for a drill. take this to the chrome but be very cautious. the chrome starts to bubble up. once this happens immediately stop!! continuing will only melt ur plastic away and will either have to fix with bondo(my case though it was minor) or buy a new grille. after it is bubbled up take a xacto knife or something to poke into the bubble and start peeling the chrome off of the plastic. **this is going to take a long time** i think all together it took me around 6 hours to get all of the chrome off. but you will more than likely cut your hands alot, i did. after you get it all off primer and paint. but if i had to do it all over again i would have just bought the black paintable grille shell and had it painted. it would have saved me alot of aggrivation

ok I have a similar project with the plastic chrome on my lower fascia . It is not metal chrome but plastic chrome. I need to get rid of the chrome so my local body shop will paint it to match. Whats under the chrome and how far down do i need to prep it to get it ready for paint?
