I seem to have a factory-installed tailgate assist on my newly acquired Laramie.

I want to take my tailgate off, do I just pop the socket off of the hydraulic arm to remove the tailgate? I'm a little scared about breaking things if I use too much force and that's not what I'm supposed to be doing.

The upper socket appears to be welded, so there's no nut to remove. There is a slim nut on the bottom, but I don't have a tool that will get in there.

Post a couple of pictures, I don't think Ram had an OEM one for the 4th gen trucks.... I know my local dealership installs the DeeZee one on every truck they have on the lot.

I didn't think there was an OEM one, either.

I got in there with my camera on zoom and I don't see a brand but I notice the part number has "DZ" in it. I'm thinking the dealer installed a DeeZee. Thanks for the heads-up!

Some of the packages on the 5th Gen come with factory tailgate assist. It's pretty sweet. You can release the tailgate with a switch in the cab of the truck.

My 2018 Outdoorsman has a deezee assist cylinder. It is a factory install. The 'factory' is an assembly plant putting together parts from hundreds of suppliers. DeeZee is one of them or the corporation that makes DeeZee is.

Taking off any cylinder of this type ie easy. Take a very small flat screw driver and pop the metal c-clips off the end cups that hold the cylinder to the body and tailgate posts.

You tube search.

Thank you for clarifying it can come from the factory that way.

I did a Youtube search and it looks super-easy to remove! Now the trick will be not scratching my tailgate as I lower it to the ground.
