Hello. I’m trying to install factory oem tailgate backup camera on some nice and so far working Chinese radio (GTRUI 9”)
So far I know with my poorly knowledge, everything is connected besides amplifier that I’m not having. My car is 2015 ram 1500 bighorn salvage and a dealer owns that car and also removed tons of parts (radio was from 2012). I replaced harness and made few changes using Alfaobd, but still getting error code:
Faults reported:

Faults found.
U0264
Error code: U0264
Lost Communication With Camera Module

Last test completed unsuccessfully
Error present
Failure warning lamp 'ON': Not requested
Test Failed: Yes
Test Failed This Monitoring Cycle: Yes
Confirmed DTC
Test Not Completed This Monitoring Cycle: No
Warning Indicator Requested: No
Error counter: 1
Original Odometer Value: 146768 km
Most Recent Odometer Value: 146768 km
Frequency Counter: 1 km
Ignition Cycle Counter: 0 km

Any clues?

I get that error when the camera is physically unplugged (no signal).

My Is connected.
Was thinking that camera is faulty, so I purchase new one and got exactly same error code.
It could be some wiring issues? Because so far I know from checking vin on carfax car was hit from front and driver side fender that was replaced, no accident reported, but dunno why passenger side fender is painted also and has a little darker paint. So far I know that cables are running from tailgate harness are going under passenger side over fender liner. I’m not specialized in electric stuff, but something could be damaged.
Btw got some strange jumper under passenger seat in airbags harness and sometimes when I hit some pothole airbags lights up on dashboard…. Ugh
So far I know from carfax that ecu was reprogrammed, and on driver side doors is sticker with vin, tire pressure, and also what is equipped like backup camera and gps navigation…. All that stuff was turned off by a dealer;/

Read thru this thread when you have time, (there's quite a bit of info in it). The factory harness for the camera runs from the back of the truck, down the drivers side, not the pass side, to the L\F wheelwell. Some people have discovered that the wiring isn't there in various places on some models\trim levels. Some have indicated the wiring from either the connecter behind the L\F wheelwell to the connector by the steering column, or from that connector to the radio isn't there. There are pics and explanations throughout the thread that should help you track it down.

My guess is there is a cut wire somewhere in there...possibly power. You could try jumping the power wire at the tailgate to see if it sends signal with a known good power source.

I was sure is under passenger side, like you open the passenger doors and took out that right panel between hvac and doors there is a harness with tailgate cam. Not sure but was watching some movies on YouTube how they installing aftermarket radios, but from boss or kenwood, and saw that trucks like mine from 2013-2017 or yearly 2018 had tailgate backup cam under passenger fender liner and goes up to connector between hvac and doors

I’ve also got this fuel cap issues. Smoke test was done, no leaks, gas cap was replaced to oem Mopar, also some sensor from domar near the tank, and another sensor under the hood from domar also, but after replacing that sensor from evap under the hood my engine having strange noise after starting for few minutes and error coming up after 3 days of driving after battery unplugging.

Ahh, I didn't realize that wiring was added with the radio install, thought you were trying to use OEM. Like mentioned above, sure sounds like a wiring\connection issue.

No that’s Mopar oem harness just added aftermarket radio with harness plugged in to original harness of a radio… just plug and play as pictures I’ve sent on my last post without any changes to original harness.

That’s the radio I’ve installed :

Everything works fine besides oem factory camera;/
Didn’t add that aftermarket cam, and microphone, because it supposed to works with factory cam. Microphone working perfectly also

I've never seen the OEM harness running down the pass side, it's always been the drivers side on everyone I've looked at. Maybe someone else on here has seen it that way? I don't think the mfr would have two completely different harnesses, routed completely different, for the same truck, but who knows.

Did the truck originally come with a backup camera? You said you are installing it. As stated before, some trucks did not have all the wiring from the factory, I'd still recommend you read thru the thread I linked above. I think you're doing a Don Quixote and tilting at windmills looking at the wiring on the pass side.

Also, in AlfaOBD, check to make sure the camera is enabled, check these settings:

Rear View Camera:

Rear View Camera
Rear Camera Present
Rear Camera CSM
Rear View Camera Delay CSM
Trailer Hitch Camera
Rear View Camera Dynamic Gridlines Enabled - Or - Static Gridlines Enabled

You right. My car has no backup camera harness. Was checking that threat you send me, and tailgate extension cable that is near the spare tire has only 2 wires for locking ;/

I just seen that on YouTube that I’ve send you before and also my truck has same connector after removing panel, probably Kenwood has some strange wiring and guy from that video was thinking that is camera harness. Anyway thanks because my car didn’t come with tailgate camera, and has no underbody harness for it.

Good deal, glad you're making progress. Mike is absolutely great, always willing to help, and his harnesses are top notch. Good luck!

My 2015 2500 had a cable between the tailgate and the bed go bad. No camera, it was replaced and worked good for several years but acts up once in a while. BTW, I traded it yesterday for a 2024 Ford Bronco Sport straight across. That little 3 banger scoots.
