Ok so a friend of a friend has a 2005 6.0 powerjoke. Apparently it's pretty quick and I do believe they are decent especially moving a F250 around.
Not sure on his gears and tires etc but lets say both are pretty much stock, I have 3.92 gears with 17" rims 1500 his is F250

My 2003 5.7 quad cab 4x4 vs his 2005 6.0 4 door short box I believe 4x4. Who would win?

I know it's easy for a modified diesel to kill a gas, and how easy it is to add big hp with just a tuner to a diesel etc. But stock for stock other than maybe exhaust and intakes. I would like to think I could take him but not actually going to race cause of the consequences of cops or an accident etc.

Stock for stock, you have the weight and possibly gearing advantage. Both of you can launch in 4wd to negate traction issues. Be fun to watch, in the end it may just come down to driver mod lol.

Probably a photo finish if he spools up at launch.

Ok yeah looked at the specs of a 6.0 for 2005, 325 hp @3300 rpm and 570 lb ft @2000 rpm
Pretty impressive although I'd never own a power stroke much rather have a cummins for reliability or even a duramax.

I'd be a lot lighter than him and I think he has 3.73 gears.

The tuners alone on diesels will give 100, 150, 200 hp.. and more depending on intake, exhaust and other things.. I believe the 6.0 was bad about head gaskets.. he may never make it to the finish line without a tow.. hahaha

As a previous owner of an F350 CC 4x4 w/ a bulletproofed 6.0 I can attest it is an exception motor ... for hauling and pulling its a beast. But generally speaking torque is for grunt work, pulling and hauling weight around and horsepower for 1/4 mile times. I would go with the 5.7 with its better HP to weight ratio.

Of course, all this is my opinion and subject to be wrong :33:

Yeah for sure, Like I said in the original post I know how much power can be had on a diesel with a tune. I wouldn't attempt to go against a diesel with a tune unless I know he's a bad driver and probably lose traction on takeoff. I wouldn't want a 6.0 or even a 6.4 cause I don't want to have to bulletproof a engine just to use it normally.

Thanks, with me being quad cab 4x4 I'd probably be 16 something seconds? Anyone know the weight difference between a regular cab 2wd short box vs a a quad 4x4 short box?

My buddy has a 98 ss/t ram single cab short box 5.9 gas and it's really quick for a pickup of that age. even with 100 hp less he can keep with me pretty good.

In your original post you said "stock for stock other than exhaust and intakes"

Exhaust and intakes on a diesel is 2/3 of the way done to 300hp added..

If you really wanna know who would win find out what your buddy has 100% in his diesel.. we cant help if he might have exhaust or might have intake or even might have tuner that you do not know of...

A tuned diesel can be wildly fast. Heck the stock 6.7 Powerstroke is impressively fast with 950 torque. Dont underestimate a tuned 6.0 either, Ive seen them with 300k on the clock running high HP tunes that outrun v8 pony cars.

OK well just lets assume both trucks are stock and stock.

Yeah I know how wild they can be with just a tuner. I am familiar with Farm equipment diesels.. Same engine can be 130 hp in a tractor all the way up to 230 hp with just computer/ fuel settings.

@Farmer888 I wouldn't think it's even worth comparing. The 6.0 will probably blow the head bolts (which those P.O.S.'s were known for), so he probably won't even make it to the finish line.

At least not until he's hooked up to the Tow Truck..............:happy175::happy175:

My brother has an 04 6.0, I have a 03 5.7 quad cab (your exact scenario!). We had two half way decent street races. First race he didn’t boost up and I got the jump on him off the line big time. Unfortunately I missed 2nd gear (I was manually shifting the truck) so didn’t get a decent full pull. Turned around and ran again, he boost launched and killed me. I had an intake and headers, 3.92 gears. I can’t remember if he was tuned or not though. Not perfect results but that’s street racing for you
