As a long time Cumminsforum user and a former Cummins owner I finally joined Ramforum. As my next purchase, I’m really considering the new 6.4 Hemi 8 speed combo as a do it all farm/everyday truck. The older I get the better one do it all vehicle sounds to me, that’s the big reason for me to consider a gas truck. I’m kinda stuck in an awkward spot, I don’t tow very often (4-5 times a year hauling cattle) but when I do it’s generally pretty heavy (14-15,000lb). I also work for my states department of highways so when it snows in the winter I have to be at work no matter the road conditions. So as of now the gas option sounds better to me. But anyway, here’s to many good years on what seems to be a great forum.

Welcome TrapShooter. It sounds like the new truck will work great for you, I'm also planning on ordering a 6.4/8spd in the coming months.

I have a 2015 2500 with 6.4, and pull a toy hauler that puts me over 23K combined. Seeing as you are at lower elevation, plus you will be getting the eight speed, you will probably be OK with it. It will take some serious getting used to, since you have been pulling with a Cummins. I also had an '05 CTD, and bought this gasser when I wasn't pulling much, but I will be going back to a Cummins, for the grunt, the performance at high elevations, and the exhaust brake. Make sure you get 4.10 gears.

As much as I would like to have another Cummins I just don’t think I can justify one. I sold my Cummins in 2015. I’ve been towing with an 95 and 01 7.3 powerstrokes the last few years, both are slow with a load but they get the job done.

$9000 charge for the Cummins pays for a LOT of gas!

Exactly, plus if I got a Cummins I would also want the Aisin, so now your talking almost $12,000 plus the extra cost of a 3500 over a 2500. I just don’t think I want a diesel to drive everyday, and this truck would eventually become a daily driver.

Hook onto something heavy, and you'll need a lot of gas. I get 6.5-8.5 pulling my toyhauler, and have not been in the mountains yet.

I traded in my 2007 3500 6.7 Cummins in for a new 6.4 2018 hemi. Big mistake for me no comparison in the 2 trucks I would take my old one back if I could. The new one is a great truck don’t get me wrong but not even close when I comes to power.
