Back before the holidays, I was in truck shopping mode. I was bound and determined to pick up a used Tundra crew cab. Seems like the trouble Toyota is having with the new ones has turned the old V8 Tundras into solid gold.
Then around Christmas my wife totaled her Lexus RX350. Deer got her while on a pizza run. So for the better part of January we shopped for a RX for her. Our local Lexus dealer didn't have any that suit her so we took a 2-1/2 hour road trip to Indianapolis and finally found her exactly what she was looking for.
We live on a farm out in the sticks so we've always had a 3/4 or 1 ton truck around. The thing is, I hate driving them. I have been driving Audis since the early 2000s. With a set of Nokian snow tires, I have gotten through every winter here in northern Indiana lake effect country just fine. Even used my current A6 to pull more than one car out of a ditch.
I recently road around western Kansas in a Ram 1500 Limited and a Platinum Tundra when we were out there pheasant hunting. I was impressed with how much nicer, quieter, and smoother the Ram was than the Tundra. The Tundra reminded my of the farm trucks I hated and the Ram reminded me more of my Audi.
I had mentioned to the salesman at our Lexus dealer that I had been truck shopping before the unfortunate incident with the deer. He called me last week and said he'd just got a truck on trade I might like. He was right. I like it a lot.
Every bit as comfy and quiet as my Audi. Our daughter and her family recently moved to South Carolina so this will replace the Audi for road trips. The daughter is super happy that I can now bring tools along on the trip. They built a new cookie cutter subdivision house and she has a long list of upgrades that she thinks I should handle.
