Hello everyone,

Been lurking here for a while. Finally decided to join.

Apologize in advance, but I figured I’d get my hemi tick post out of the way right off the bat.

2014 1500 sport 5.7. Bought it at 77k, now at 133k

Has had a tick the whole time that’s pretty consistent.

Running Castrol high mileage 5w-20.

Did an oil change 2 days ago.

Got a long trip coming up so i gave it a look. Noticed at least three broken exhaust manifold bolts. (Will replace both sides with some shortys)

However I thought it would be prudent to still upload a few videos/audio of a cold start and idle.

First video was cutoff for an unknown reason but there is only about 30 seconds between the two videos.

Do you guys hear anything that may indicate not just an exhaust problem but also a lifter problem?

Thank you in advance guys.

Broken exhaust manifold bolt tick usually subsides after the engine warms up. However, sometimes the manifolds warp so much that the leak does not seal when the engine warms up.

Looks like you have a stub sticking up on the broken bolts in your pics. Usually super easy to remove once the exhaust manifolds are off.

Use a belt sander to true the surface of your exhaust manifolds. It will take a bit of sanding, but absolutely will work.

Get a set of exhaust manifold gaskets and hardware (I used fel-pro gaskets from rock auto and everbuilt hardware from amazon, Remflex are supposed to be the best gaskets, tho). Torque on the exhaust bolts is only ~18 ft-lbs.

You don't need grade 8 hardware either. Once your manifolds are trued up, they will not warp again. New cast iron manifolds will likely warp as they haven't been heat-cycled.
