Howdy, all. Been a regular reader of this forum for about two years, when a good friend donated his 2002 1500 (4.7 Magnum) to me while dealing with my late mother's Probate nightmare. Now that I have a lot of unexpected -- not to mention, unwanted ... and unpaid -- free time -- trying to tackle a lot of the smaller and necessary repairs to keep my girl running at least until sports, and my paycheck, come back.

I apologize in advance if I ask dumb questions. Since learning how to DIY like an "adult," most of my experience has come in the woodshop -- I'm great with a hammer and saw, but still getting the hang of working with wrenches and ratchets!

In the meantime, my first burning question: how do I know if I have a 2nd-Gen or 3rd-Gen Ram, as 2002 seems to cover both!

Thanks in advance for any and all help. I wish I'd realized the pride and satisfaction of maintaining my own vehicle a lot sooner.

From my understanding it is based on body/ platform. i.e. My work rig is a 2019 Ram 1500 Classic, even though it’s a ‘19 it’s still classified as a 4th Gen. This was info I got from the Dealer when I picked it up.

I hope this helps.
