I did the same thing in high school auto tech, it was motor that we brought in and rebuilt, It ended up powering a 1986 Dodge Dakota. It was a fun project. We got to use all the tools at school to do it.
Good on you!! I remember those days..... Just keep in mind that when you are done tech school, you are no expert. What you will be is a guy with a ticket to learn, and that learning goes on over your lifetime. Use that ticket wisely.
