Is the outter cover suppose to be soft carpet material exposed to the elements in the undercarriage? I would think it should have a hard cover or something?

PS. What happened to my first post about my first RAM? It's gone.

I was thinking the same thing when I first saw mine, but like yours it is a carpet type material.

Yeah, weird design. I'm think maybe just spray it with bed liner stuff.

Floorboard cooler? You mean the storage compartments in the rear floor? I don't know why they covered the hard plastic with a "carpet like" material other than maybe to lessen the blow from stones or other road debris that might happen to hit them. If you want it to be a hard cover, I suppose you can scrape the carpet-like stuff off the hard plastic.

There are removable inserts...I've already had a few cold drinks in one of mine for a road trip. I just dumped out the water after the ice melted.

I'd like to cover it up with something. It's just not natural looking to have soft material just jutting out the undercarriage like that.

Not like a Yeti cooler or anything but it kept 4-5 bottles of water cold on a 5 hour trip. I didn't expect much out of it but it worked for that anyway.

It also helps keep noise from penetrating.
Soft surface doesn't transmit sound very well.

My wifes 2014 car's wheel well liners are covered in the same material. Amazingly, it stays pretty clean, but washes right up when using a pressure washer.

Most manufactures are going over to this for the wheel well liners.
It kills some road noise.

Ford uses something similar on the new Super Duty trucks. Unfortunately whatever they're using is a ***** to clean! I'll power wash it forever and dirt keeps appearing from no where! I'd much rather have plastic and road noise than that material and a quieter cab!

Unless the truck is on a lift or being crawled under you don't even see them. Not sure why anyone would object to what they are covered with.
