Title says it. Guy has a flowmaster super 44 for cheap, used. Its 3" ID and the pipe im running is 2 1/2" ID. Can i adapter to 3" then back to 2 1/2" reasonably or will that not work?

EDIT: Ram 2500 5.9 V8 by the way.

To better answer your question, what is the outside diameter of your pipe? 2.75"? If that's the case you could put the muffler over both ends of your exhaust pipe and clamp it down really hard on each end with some exhaust clamps and hope it doesn't leak... but idk if you'll be able to smash the pipe down that .25" to get a semi tight seal

Just about any exhaust shop will be able to weld it in no prob for fairly cheap. I had my Magnaflow muffler welded in and that and removing my redneck clamp job I had going and replaced that with new pipe all for $80. Muffler cost me more.

All the muffler shops around me want like 50-50-80 to weld and if I want new pipe the price jumps! It would be cheaper for me to but a cat back for new pipes

If your pipes fit semi snug, does it make a difference whether you weld or clamp them together?

I'm not saying full new pipe. I had a rickety set up of clamps holding my muffler in. They just fixed that. Welding in just the muffler using an adapter or 2 should cost only about $50 or so

You can cut some slots into the 3" side, insert the 2.5" pipe, then clamp it. The pipe with the slots will collapse around the smaller pipe.
