Ok I have no idea if this is the right place for this or not so please feel free to grill me for it.

Anywho, I bought a factory remote start for my wife's 2017 Cherokee and installed it. It came with 2 new fobik fobs that were unprogrammed. I took the boards out of her fobik and put them in the new cases since they had the third button where the originals didn't. The new unprogrammed boards went in the old cases and we kept them for spares if needed. Well I tried to get one programmed to my truck and the guy at Batteries + couldn't get it to work. So I took it to the dealer and they shut me down immediately saying it couldn't be done because the fobik was for a Jeep and not a Ram. I didn't argue, I wasn't in the mood. I do however think he's full of ****. Before I try another dealer, does anyone know for sure?

I had a dealer give me a ram fob for my challenger by accident. They were able to program it to start the car if inserted in the dash but were not able to get the push to start or door locks to work.

Luckily they got me the right one and I got to keep the extra since once they are programmed, they can’t be changed.

Yes, the Cherokee fob will work for the ram.

That's what I thought. The dealer I bought my truck from is a great place to buy but their shop has always been kind of short and rude about things. I figured when he told me no without even trying that he just didn't want to do it. I'll be talking with the other local dealer's shop soon.

Well apparently the Cherokee fob wouldn't work in the Ram. I took both of the blanks I had and they tried to program them both with no luck. The tech said they wouldn't communicate with the truck. My only assumption at this point is that they work on different frequencies. Either way, I still have 1 truck key and two blank Cherokee keys.

Put your old boards back in the fobs and just change the push pad that has the symbols on it. All the functions are in all the fobs. If you look at the back side of the push pad you will see only some of the little pads have contacts on their undersides and the pads that don't have symbols on the outside do not have the contacts. With help from the people on this forum I activated the remote start on my 2017 Ram using the original fobs.
