My blutooth quit working in my 2011 Power wagon. The unit would not even see the module anymore, so I bought a used one from another 2011 2500. It will not work either. I have been told since by my local dealers that these units are VIN locked and cannot be re-programmed to another VIN. They want me to buy a replacement unit for $800.
Are they telling me the truth, or can I get a used unit programmed to work on my truck?

Not sure if it's true or not, but I checked AlfaOBD and Jscan. In those programs, it's referred to as the "Hands Free Module", and they don't indicate that there's a way to initialize it or write a vin into it.

If you still have your old one, you could contact a service like UpFix. Send them both modules and they'll clone the software from the old module and write it to the replacement module.

You'll have to contact them first to see if it is doable with the specific module you have.

Is that in the pic the original or the replacement? Because I see a different part number as fitting your year

I see 05064635AG as a superceded part number for the part in the link below, but I can't find 05064735AG anywhere.

Its possible the pairing is done on the radio side. Maybe this setting?

Definitely possible.

I found a "reset vin values" option for our 2013+ powernet trucks too.

JScan also has the ability to connect to those modules, but won't show the sub-menus unless connected.

How about this test to evaluate the existing HFM?

piling on...reset ECU from the radio is always a good starting point too. In addition, the BCM is the authority for many modules, all this to say don't give that dealer a dime.

Yea, I'm not a fan of dealers. Exactly one "good" experience in my lifetime. And by "good", I mean that they successfully repaired the issue on the first try and didn't damage something even more expensive in the process.

I saw some posts on a Facebook charger forum/thread thing that seem to indicate it's plug n play. A couple guys posted there that they installed junkyard units. 2012-2013 cars, I think.

It is a replacement I bought off Ebay from another 2011 2500. The number is the exact same as the one that was in my truck. Unfortunately I do not have the original still.

Even if I were to purchase the one you posted, how would I get it to work with my truck? The dealers say a new one has to be programmed also.

I am on my 4th used unit and none of them have worked. The last one gave me a message on the screen to the effect that the unit was disabled.

Unless you want to buy AlfaOBD and play with the possibilities mentioned here, which still might not work, your probably stuck with the dealer.

AlfaOBD will cost you 60$ plus the price of the hardware (ELM327 interface dongle, like the obdlink mx+)

Or invest in a j2534 pass-thru, pay Mopar for a Witech subscription and try and flash the new module yourself. I think it's about 67$ for a single VIN 3 day subscription.

Mopar Parts Giant shows one of the superceded part #s for a good bit cheaper than the newest revision, and A LOT cheaper than what your dealer quoted.

As long as your dealer would be willing to do the programming on a part you bought elsewhere.

Of course, do your due diligence and input your info to verify fitment.
