Okay, the discussion came up the other day about the “small” rectangle gauge that has mileage in it. I had always thought it was indicating how many miles until fill up. When I did initially fill up tank, the little gauge read 630. Then not five minutes later it read 635. Then again maybe 10 minutes it reads 550. WTH ? What gives and kindly explain what this darn gauge is indicating. Thank you in advance. RAM is a Laramie 5.7 Hemi E-Torque.

I don't have that but it sounds to me like it is predicting your "miles to empty" based on your current driving.

Like the difference between "current" MPG and "average" MPG. Miles-to-empty might just be referencing your "current" stats.

Just my $0.02.

Mine does the same thing. I drive a lot of short trips, so it might 540 miles to empty. If I take off on a longer trip either it will not go down for a while, or it goes up to 6xx. I figure it is using you current driving style and distances, instead of using the last X amount of miles.

I think you are referring to the DTE (distance to empty) gage.

I'm guessing it's an assumption based on your driving style. You will see it fluctuating if you are paying attention.

I can drive for a day and the DTE number is exactly the same as when I filled up. Depending on if I am hotrodding my truck of course.
