EV's have their place. Most of the U.S. doesn't drive pickup trucks.

This is a truck forum. EV is not practical for pickup trucks. Now, if they ban pickup trucks, then we'd have a real issue.

Oops!

GM announces delayed EV truck launch.

Meanwhile, Toyota keeps investing in fundamental research into new batteries, esp. a dry cell that can provide 700 mile charge spans, if recharge cycle life can be improved.

The three best selling vehicles in America for the last decade... F-Series, Ram and Silverado/Sierra.

Tell me again what "most" of the US drives?

Add all the other types of vehicle classes sold - cars, SUV's, CUV's, etc.

It's too expensive. Once they get a base model down to 40k I think it would sell.

They can't because the amount of battery needed costs too much.

Toyota's messing around with solid state batteries gets the range and charging problem solved, but the cost gets even worse.

People are also working on hydrogen, but being the least energy dense fuel of all, the problem is making enough of it (methane reformers or water electrolyzers) for a decent price, and storing it. The latest when I left the powertrain biz was a hydride salt like they use in thermonuclear bombs that releases the hydrogen when needed, somehow. I'm not a physicist, so didn't follow much.

Bottom line is we are all saying the same thing - energy and mobility isn't gonna be one big miracle solution - it's gonna be a patchwork, like it already is, and banning liquid fuels and trucks would cause a global depression the likes the world has never seen.

In fact, one of the biggest emitters of carbon dioxide is the jet engine. They gonna ban air travel?

Let's face it - we can reduce carbon dioxide emissions but not eliminate it. They need to get to work storing CO2 and getting more plant life to absorb it.

Oh stop with the "global warming" bull. Per NASA's own satellite observations the earth is greener now than it has been at any time in the last fifty years. Man's carbon emissions are NOTHING compared to what a single volcano puts out... and we can't do a darn thing about those.

The whole bid to end dependence on oil is part of the sociopolitical elite's plan to return the West to the dark ages. Get everybody dependent on the electric grid then ration power. ****** A once free people are now SERFS and no shots have been fired.

Immature technology, did you hear of Tesla charging over $20K all in to replace a battery in one of their cars that got damaged by rain?

The much more organic approach is to slowly transition from pure gas, to hybrid, to plugin hybrid, and then finally EVs years down the line when its much cheaper than gasoline alternatives. One EV truck battery has enough cells in it to make 50+ hybrids.

None of it matters while the national electric grid is dependent upon coal, oil and natural gas.
On top of that the process of acquiring rate earth metals to make the batteries is extremely destructive.

The whole push towards the EV is nothing but a scheme to limit personal mobility. Get everyone dependent upon the electric grid, which the govt controls, then ration power. Congratulations, you've turned a once free people into serfs without firing a shot. Claiming "the environment" is just a way to get the mindless masses to support their own enslavement.
