You could have used Fender Washers, instead of making washers.
Fender Washer are 1 1/2" wide , with a small bolt sized hole in the center

Personally, i like the way my 2009 Dodge Ram after market Nerf Bars were mounted, they were made by
N-FAB.
A great muffler shop that also does Fabrication Work & i Modified the Rear Step






I seem to have lost the middle image

The rear step was cut off, originally it was the same size as the front step.
A Metal warehouse was nearby & they had the metal needed to build a new longer step



The same set of Nerf Bars are on my 2016 Ram, they are now 14 years old

Lastly, To stiffen things up all it took was a short brace between the middle body mount bolt and the step.

None of it is painted yet.. and i need to grind those welds a bit more. But Im a solid 225 and I can stand on them all day, fore and aft.
