I need to change the front right hub on my Truck as have a noisy wheel bearing - can anyone run through what is involved in doing this?

It's a 2005 Ram quad cab with 5.7 Hemi.

Thanks very much.

Thanks - very helpful....

The only part I'm unsure about is getting the drive axle out as I've never removed one, is it as easy as they make it look?

Is your truck 2wd or 4wd? I may have to do this as well.

I think I may be doing this soon. How much is it going to cost in parts?

Order from over here and have them shipped! I order stuff for my friends in Canada and send it to them.

Thanks....it seems pretty straight forward as long as the axle's aren't seized on the hubs.....

I've found all the parts I need on rockauto.com - anyone used them, are they trustworthy etc?

Used them in the past when I didn't have my truck, everything went great with the purchase.

I also have to do mine on an '04 Ram 1500 4x4 5.7L. Just waiting for the snow to go away and the temp to rise. I will be using the Timken brand. I replaced the rear wheel bearings last year. Also used Timken. I have used Timken on many brands of vehicles and absolutely love them. If you have 4-wheel abs sensors you will need both to have the sensor wires otherwise you will need 1 with the sensor wire and 1 without. '02 - '08 part #'s should be the same. Timken SP500100 for both sides with 4-wheel abs or for driver's side without 4-wheel abs. Timken HA500100 for passenger side without 4-wheel abs. Hope this helps.

I'd pull the wheel, break the axle nut loose, and squirt some PB Blaster or another good penetrating spray on the splines/hub area if you're concerned about things being seized up or rusty. Let it soak, then spin the nut on a few turns and give it a good whack with a brass hammer to break the axle loose.

I did mine last summer and it's really simple after you watch the youtube videos to get an idea of what you're going to do.

Yeah, same basic principle. Just easier because a 2wd doesn't have the cv shaft to deal with. Remove 3 bolts, persuade the old assembly out, and reinstall the new. I'd put some anti-seize around the outside of the new assembly just to ease future disassembly down the road.
